Mike Wheeler the most Enneagram Type 8 to exist.
It's the deterioration of his character from the leader who throws himself on the frontlines against bullies, to the broken, weaker guy who blends into the background, because there's no more fight left in him.
It's the NEED to protect everyone around him, even when he physically can't. To protect Will, El, his friends, the kids in S5... We see him return to his Leader Mike 'The Heart' Wheeler persona in Vol 1, but it's nothing more than a façade he's desperately trying to maintain and uphold.
It's the emotional repression and closed-offedness.
