Narcissa and alcohol is a dangerous combination. Due to her overprotective parents and the fact that Cygnus was at times an angry drunk, Narcissa didn’t see the appeal in alcohol until adulthood, and she had completely failed to build up a tolerance for it. She enjoys Firewhiskey on occasion but can only drink it in small amounts or when she and Lucius are safely at home, because her typical ability to reserve affection for private settings erodes when she isn’t thinking clearly. They do enjoy wine socially and more frequently when alone together. Lucius is much more of an expert at handling his liquor.

Lucius knows Narcissa grew up in a less loving home than his own and has made it his mission to ensure that she always knows how loved she is. He often surprises her with everything from flowers (white roses) to breakfast in bed to spontaneous picnics and horseback rides along Malfoy Manor’s grounds.

Lucius is bothered by Narcissa’s self-criticism. He’s spent years trying to persuade her to see herself in the same wonderful light in which he sees her, and it’s working, however slowly.

Lucius was not expecting to have a soft spot for the kitten Narcissa brought home while she was pregnant with Draco. However, through persistence and determination to play with his hair and paw at his face while he slept until he gave in, Artemis managed to win his heart and began to follow him around like a fluffy little shadow.
