The blues world lost a giant talent yesterday (May 17) with the death of Lucky Peterson at the age of 55. Lucky was a brilliant keyboard player (who made his first album when he was five years old(!)), a fiery guitarist, a soulful singer and a wildly energetic entertainer. . Lucky cut two Alligator albums, “Lucky Strikes!” and “Triple Play”, both produced by my friend Bob Greenlee at Kingsnake Studio in Florida. In addition, he played piano on “Harp Attack!”, Carey Bell’s “Deep Down” album and Otis Rush’s “Lost In The Blues.” His playing was always inventive, subtle and supremely confident. . In my experience, Lucky was also a sweet, nice guy, always smiling and laughing. He should have been one of the most famous bluesmen of his generation, but was known to sometimes have some “personal problems” that got in the way of his career. But every time I was with him in the studio, he delivered 110% of his talent with total professionalism and infectious good spirits.
