thinking about how nelle would absolutely rock a bake sale at the girls’ school LMFAO
LUCY, AS USUAL YOU ARE SO CORRECT.
see you at three.
the thing is, she gets so nervous about it. you know, she's still a little shy about the role she plays in sarah's life, but also doesn't sign up under the guise of being ellie's aunt --- because it's sarah who asks her to sign up for it. so it's sarah whose name nelle puts hers down beside.
but the moms? well, they've never been her biggest fan. from the beginning she's been sarcastic, uninterested in gossip, and has never once made an effort to make conversation with or befriend anyone but joel.
then nelle and joel get together properly, and she swears she must grow horns with how the moms glare when they think she can't see. joel miller - the eternal bachelor, always so handsome and so dedicated and so goddamn hard to pin down. you know how many moms have taken a shot at him? the number ain't small, yet not once has he ever bitten, or even seemed tempted by their doe-eyed offers of coffee or playdates. nelle on the other hand only has to waltz up out of nowhere, and poof. joel miller is off the market.
this unfortunately colors some opinions of her. they're a little bitter, but can you blame them? she stole quite the catch. so when nelle signs up for the bake sale the other parents also taking part snicker privately to themselves, think, bless her heart. she's finally trying. and expect her to show up with store-bought stuff like a rookie.
ha, ha HA!!! lo and behold, miss professional rocks up to the bake sale timid as anything, so nervous about the social element of the day but carrying straight up magic. jaws hit the floor. joel helps her carry the extra trays in from the truck, proud as anything, unable to help the smallest smile that sneaks out at the look on everyone's faces as she sets up her table. smiling! in public! at his girl. she's too nervous to notice, but ooof. the other moms do!
needless to say, she sells out first. the principal even comes out to ask if she'd be willing to sign up for the rest of the bake sales they've got planned for the year. the following year, she gets put in charge of running the whole thing :,)
(here are some things I picture her making, all anxiously tested at home and "forcefed" to sarah and joel as she grilled them for feedback, who were all too happy to comply.)
