10. My muse sings your muse a lullaby before bed
The girl lay under his covers, comfortably spread out on his bed. She was exhausted. You didn’t need to be Sherlock to know that much. Her eyes, usually bright and filled with life, were dull and unfocused, the kind you feared never would open after closure. Two pillows lay under her head, giving her irked neck support, and the comforter was pulled up to her chin. Even in this state — she was beautiful. More beautiful than any other person Haruka had ever seen.
He cared for her. Cared so much, the way she looked now hurt him. It made his chest ache and his mind to fill with worry. He’d overworked her. He was the reason she was here, in his bed, struggling to keep conscious.
"I owe you.." He said, and she shook her head slowly in return. A smile played at her lips, not fitting in with the rest of her features. "I do… I really do. How can I make this up for you?" Haru tried again, taking her limb hand in both of his.
"Sing for me," the girl whispered, closing her eyes in the process. Haruka’s eyes went wide and his mouth dry. "S-Sing..?" He looked down at her still smiling face. Her head moved up and down, slowly, telling him that yes, she wanted to hear his voice. She wanted him to sing.
He took a deep, shaky breath, feeling the nerves build inside him. He never sang in front of anybody. Barely even when he was alone did he sing. It wasn’t that he didn’t like it. It was just… not right. But for Hana, he’d do anything.
"Alright," he rubbed circles on her hand with his thumb as he started singing a soft tune his grandmother had taught him. The melody slowly unfolded itself, tune after tune and as the song went on, his voice followed.
And then, it stopped. His voice came to a halt and the song ended.
The only audible sound in the room was the quiet, but deep, breathing of the sleeping Hana.
