Stuart Halls Reception Theory
Reception theory is a version of reader response literary theory that emphasises the reader's reception of a literary text. It is more generally called audience reception in the analysis of communications models.
Photoshop - Lucy Simpson
Here is one of the photo's that I created using Photoshop. First of all we watched a YouTube tutorial that carried us through each and every individual step explaining how to use Photoshop and what effects work best. In this photograph I gathered two pictures from Google, one being a view of New York and the other being a close up shot of wood. The first step that I began with was adding the photograph of New York to photoshop and then edited that by itself. (saturation, brightness and contrast) Once I edited that photograph, I dragged in the photo of the wood which was placed on top of the New York photo, as a 2nd layer. After adding the photograph on top of the Picture of New York, I then began to edit overall. I worked with various effects, such as, changing the transparency percentage, contrast, saturation and other interesting layered effects on Photoshop.
This task was very helpful in terms of building our overall confidence with Photoshop. The step by step YouTube guidance video was gave us an indication of what effects work really well and also how to use certain features within Photoshop that some of us didn't know about before-hand.
This task is also something that we can all look back on when we are set tasks that involve using Photoshop, as we have all now used different features that we weren't so confident about before completing this set task.

Class feedback - Lucy Simpson
During the week we all (as a class) had the chance to present our work (music video) to the class. This gave us the opportunity to view other peoples music videos and study how they created them. It also gave us the chance to comment and give feedback on their overall music video.
Those who watched and commented on our music video gave us many positives and very few negatives which was great. The positive comments that we got were the following:
- The background footage of London worked well with the song lyrics.
- The lyrics that flashed up during the chorus, worked particularly well.
- The silhouette background was very interesting.
- Certain shots were very focused and well filmed.
- Good costume // fur, leather // fashionable.
Despite getting a variation of positive comments, we did also get some negative feedback that we could have perhaps improved on, such as the following:
- Lamp post was very annoying (background footage).
- Background footage was very repetitive
- Some footage was out of sync in terms of the lyrics.
I think that it was a good idea in getting feedback from others within our class as it gave us an idea on what we could have improves and also how well we have done as a whole. It gave us an indication of what people liked about our video most of all, and what they least enjoyed about it.
I also liked viewing other peoples music videos, most of all to see how well they have done and what I liked best and least about theirs. It also shown us what effects/transitions, setting/props and story line they used, which was very interesting.

Questions that I will ask:
- What do you like/dislike about the editing?
- What do you think about the frequent cuts/flashes? Do you like this idea?
- What is your favourite part of the video?
- If you could change something within the video, what would it be?
- What do you think makes this video stand out?
- Do you think the digi pack links in well with the artist? (Fergie)
- Do you think our music video conveys Ariel Levy's theory of 'Raunch Culture'?
Update - Lucy Simpson & Becca Dowdeswell
Due to the mishaps that we have faced during the making of our music video, we are now finally got ourselves back on track after completing the filming and editing of our music video. The filming of the music video as a whole was very difficult as myself (Lucy) and Becca had to film the full footage for our coursework primarily by ourselves. This proved to be very difficult as it meant that we had to try and do everything all at once, such as, the lighting, background footage/images, filming, acting & directing between the two of us. However, despite this we have successfully filmed everything, in just the right time for uploading and transporting.
