Engineer’s midrange. You’ve gotta get close to use some of the skills effectively but you can still say NOPE and hide behind shit. Infiltrator’s a long range, soldier can also be long range if you spec a sniper but engineer, at least for me, was mid.
I figured a lot of it has to do with how you build, especially in 3, cause there's so many options in terms of powers vs. weapons. I forget the tech skills tend to have shorter ranges than the biotic ones cause I only ever lightly played around with some of the other classes when I was trying to figure out what I wanted Liam to be. (I settled on infiltrator and regretted it in that first part of London with teh shaky ground, I got so dizzy I had to turn the game off)

Biotics were nerfed? /never plays mage, And for Infiltrators, GAAAWD the Vasir fight is either superfun (BOOM HEADSHOT) or infuriating (ARGH RELOAD FASTER).
Biotics got heavily nerfed in 2, a lot of the powers were consolidated and Vanguards lost most of the really decent ones (Pull sucks ass compared to Throw, for instance). And then there was the rock/paper/scissors thing with teh armor/shields/barriers which meant a lot of times you couldn't use them. It was one of the reasons I had to knock Liam's PT down to Normal, even Hardcore was torturous because until I picked up ARs on teh Collector ship I was literally twiddling my thumbs behind cover waiting because I couldn't use any of my powers and my guns hit like a wet noodle.
They went right back to OP in 3 though, probably even worse than they were in the first game, cause biotic explosions can be triggered off anything (not just Warp) and they're not blocked by shields anymore. Especially when Dark Channel's involved and you can pass biotic scurvy around to asplode.
