It upsets me that the idea of having a translator is shat on so much. I've seen people fuck with deaf interpreters too (like just mouthing words so the interpreter can't sign anything and the audience is confused). Marie Kondo is trying her best to spread her knowledge and skill w/ the abilities she has. It shouldn't be a big joke that she needs help translating ideas that don't necessarily have an English/Western equivalent. Like a bunch of monolingual ppl are mocking her for being monolingual?
it’s ridiculous, especially the heavy misunderstanding and mocking of her phrase “spark joy” being reduced down to an infantile and childish definition. Like sorry her signature catchphrase isn’t “sparks an emotional connection that can be felt through physical means like your heart racing and an overall sense of gratitude for it being in your life” rather than “Spark Joy”.
