Here's us blessing our last trip doing Makiga (brick making) tonight. We're also taking turns placing handwritten verses into the fresh bricks! I'm glad that we've broken barriers about mizungu (foreigners) treating themselves as better than the local Africans, and not doing any hard work. I'm also glad that we've broken barriers about how women and men have specific tasks that don't overlap. i.e., mizungu WOMAN doing makiga? Unheard of! I'm kinda going to miss this place I've called home for the past 3 weeks. Everyone is a family here, and nobody gives up. It's so inspiring. How bricks are made in #uganda: soil from the ground is first dug out, then sifted, mixed thrice, shovelled some more, and then it goes into this machine. After that they have to be stacked and watered 3x (sun drying in between) before they can be used to make houses. Everything's done by hand; this machine is the only "non-human" process. Every single brick is handmade! Been helping with brick making, shovelling and watering bricks. Really hard work.
