Lusia Harris, a Black woman, became the first and only woman ever drafted by the NBA in 1977. The New Orleans Jazz selected her in the seventh round after her successful career at Delta State.

Luisa Harris
A former American basketball player, she is considered one of the pioneers of women's basketball. She won three consecutive Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) National Championships with Delta State University from 1975 to 1977.
She also won the silver medal with the United States' national team in the 1976 Olympic Games, the first ever women's basketball tournament in the Olympic Games. She scored the first ever points in the Olympic women's basketball tournament.
She has been inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She was the first and only woman ever officially drafted by the NBA.
