If you really think about it, Luis Manzano is the epitome of all things wrong in our culture. Vaguely attractive, vaguely white dude who talks for a living? He’s everything our generation is built to hate, but in my humble, frankly also irrelevant opinion, he’s not hated enough.
The last time Luis was relevant was 2009 when he played a gay man in the Olivia Lamasan classic, In My Life. I’d like to say it was all downhill from there but that’s not exactly true. Luis had his moments. He was a defining part of the MYX generation’s childhood. During bouts of absolute disgust for this asshat, I get flashbacks to his immensely funny, just this side of lovable fake rift with also then-VJ Nikki Gil, and second guess if I actually do hate him or if I’m just a millennial.
But then you realize that nowadays, Manzano’s whole career depends purely on the beautiful, much more successful women he’s gotten “lucky” with. He’s got an Angel, a Jennelyn, and some other starlet-shaped notches on his bed and it really does make you ask the question: how big is this dude’s dick?
I mean, what’s the appeal?
When was the last time you saw Manzano on the news for something that doesn’t involve some actress he’s fucking? I hate to be the person who flashes the “Oedipal Complex” card but his mother is Vilma Santos and even she can tell you that there’s no such thing as miracles.
He peddles his mediocre skills through pointless, let’s-make-the-masses-stupider, bile-inducing game show adaptations, and fools you into thinking he has a sense of humor through his meme-filled Instagram account. Motherfucker.
I mean?????
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure where this all-encompassing abhorrence for Manzano comes from. Maybe it’s because he’s a man-child who’s managed to Taylor Swift his way into something that resembles success. Maybe it’s because he has managed to keep everyone on their toes by publicly romancing women left and right, much to the dismay and demise of each of those womens’ individual careers. Maybe it’s because he probably has a Google alert for “FHM’s Sexiest Women Alive.”
Maybe it’s because he’s talentless and crude. Maybe I just like being an asshole to assholes. Whatever. I mean, how about you? What are you to say to that?
Shakey’s has just introduced its first-ever celebrity endorser, Luis “Lucky” Manzano, who himself is a big self-confessed fan of the pizza chain. The grand unveiling was held last August 31 at the Shakey’s Quezon Avenue branch, one of its biggest and most popular outlets. The Hungry Kat was there together with friends from the media as the newest brand ambassador for Shakey’s discussed how he remembers and cherishes all his precious Shakey’s Moments throughout the years.
Shakey’s has grown to be one of the Filipinos’ most favorite casual dining restaurants. First opening their doors in 1975, the Philippines’ favorite fun, family, pizza restaurant has evolved into a definite venue for good times and great memories with over 170 branches nationwide. Serving freshly-cooked, hearty pizzas, gourmet pastas and chicken dishes at the best prices, Shakey’s continues to be part of the Filipino’s dining experience and now they are taking it one step further by announcing their first celebrity endorser.
Beyond their ever-dependable menu and iconic dishes, the innovative brand continues to highlight and bring importance to the relationship they share with their Guests. This is why they have decided to find a special someone who will best represent what they stand for and the special connection they have. Shakey’s has always been a great place to hang out with family and friends, whether it is during those crucial exam weeks, or after a hard day’s work at the office.
The best thing about this particular branch is that it has its own mini-arcade Fun Zone where kids and families can play and bond together. I have my own fond memories of this area and I’m sure many others have their own Shakey’s Moments. This is probably the only place where you can get great pizza while having fun at the same time.
Our event host that afternoon was the lovely Sam Oh who opened with her own happy experiences at Shakey’s.
The guests were then treated to a merienda of Shakey’s favorites including their signature Chicken N’ Mojos as well as almost-unlimited servings of thin-crust pizza, carbonara and spaghetti. It was like having a kiddie birthday party all over again!
In between delicious bites of pizza and chicken, some of the guests were also invited to play a game of Family Feud with two teams fighting for bragging rights and prizes from Shakey’s.
Finally, it was time to reveal the newest endorser for Shakey’s, Luis Manzano! The brand chose Lucky, as he is more known as, not only because of his funny, lovable personality but, more importantly, because he is a true and authentic fan of Shakey’s. Lucky loves eating Shakey’s Pepperoni Pizza, which is quite obvious from the 13 slices he devoured during their shoot. He will definitely be a good representation of everyone’s favorite Shakey’s moments.
“Every single time I celebrate, Shakey's has to be a part of it,” shares Luis. The former MYX VJ turned celebrity host recently treated the backstage staff of his hit TV game shows to a Shakey's party of all his favorite menu items to reward them for their long hours and hard work. Why Shakey's? Because he grew up with it. Since he was a child, Luis' memories with friends and family have been colored by the presence of the ever-present Shakey's pizza box. “I grew up with my extended family, so every Sunday the house was always full of people. During every reunion, there was always Shakey's. In fact, I can't remember a reunion without it.”
Luis Manzano is an authentic Shakey's fan, posting and tweeting constantly about the famous fun, family, pizza. Viewing his social media feed would show numerous photos of the Pepperoni Pizza, his all-time favorite. “In fact, when my friends found out I would be working with Shakey's, they asked me if I was going to have parties at my house every weekend. I am that much of a fan!” For Luis, Shakey's isn't just about the food. “Shakey's has a great atmosphere. It really is a place for good times and great memories because when you enter Shakey's you see families laughing and couples smiling. Everything is always so fun and so celebratory.” This is the reason Luis believes Shakey's has lasted as long as it has.
With Luis as partner to Shakey’s, the brand hopes to reach out more to their Guests, to encourage them to make their own Shakey’s moments, whether if it’s for after-school bonding with friends, a midnight snack delivery with the siblings, or having Sunday lunch with the family. It was a fun afternoon sharing our own Shakey’s Moments and we will surely have a lot more with Luis Manzano at the helm. Thank you, Lucky and Shakey’s for all the treats. ‘Til our next Shakey’s moment!
