Song rankings that no one asked for: vol 1
Lukas Graham (Self Titled)
Ranked from best to worst, in my personal opinion, because I felt like it.
1. Mama Said
I love this song. Big favorite. It was my first favorite of theirs, before it got popular from tiktoks, four years ago. It's fun and cute and I like that the message is about it being okay to be poor hoodlums, more or less. Also the music video is perfect. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "mama told us we were good kids"
2..Better Than Yourself (Criminal Minds, pt. 2)
I love this one. Very mysterious. Who is he singing to? What did they do? I need more information. It's intriguing and endearing and sounds lovely. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: toss up between "they tried to give you angel wings but you refused to fly," "we both know that we owe nothing to each other but can you blame me for loving and missing my brother," and "you told me back then that I was meant for something better"
3. Funeral
I adore this one. It's about what he would like his own funeral to look like and he wrote it in the wake of his father's death as a way of processing his experiences. Therapeutic and charming. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "all of my friends are in the room"
4. Happy Home
This song is fricken precious. It's all about the layers of support he has in his mom, his friends who were there for him when his dad died, his wife and kids, and so on. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "I used to practice with my mommy on the piano, I still get nervous every time I know she's at a show"
5. 7 Years
This one is rightfully popular because it's very cute. It's a recollection of his life and the trajectory thereof. It tells a clear story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "It was a big big world but we thought we were bigger"
6. You're Not There
This song is about grief. In it, he sings about how he still expects to see his dad, how he feels his presence but also feels his absence, and how he didn't get to say goodbye. It just isn't my favorite. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "Though I know that you're not there, I still write you all these songs; It's like, you still got the right to know what's going on"
7. Drunk in the Morning
This song is kinda fun, but also pretty empty. The music video is fun, filming it must have been a blast. It's nothing spectacular but it is catchy. ⭐⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "Girl I got one question, are you still awake?"
8. What Happened to Perfect
This one is about a relationship that has devolved into simply tolerating one-another. It sounds nice enough, but it also just kinda bums me out. ⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "What's under the surface? It used to be love"
9. Don't You Worry 'Bout Me
This song kind of irritates me. The lyrics are catastrophically mismatched with sound, which was clearly a deliberate choice, but it just doesn't resonate with me. ⭐⭐
Fav lyric: "Sometimes you scream without hope"
10. Take the World By Storm
This one is a little predictable in a weird way. Deeper lyrics are clearly possible, but this song i has a very generic feel. ⭐
Fav lyric: "I wanna see what I haven't seen"
11. Strip No More
This song is annoying. The gist is a young guy has a crush on a stripper and wonders why she quit stripping. I skip it every time. Boring. Sounds bad and clashy.⭐
Fav lyric: Sorry, none of them are redeemable enough. Barf.
