A pair of sleep-deprived girls, a fort, and a confused Captain Major GLORYz
Cap descended the stairs, rubbing his eyes sleepily. Luke's birthday party had run late, and his nightly visit to Sloki even later, and he hadn't gotten to bed until about four. He'd gotten in and out of the house using a rope ladder that he kept in the room for 'fire emergencies' but actually used when he wanted to come and go unnoticed, so he hadn't been in the living room since the night before.
The living room was chaos. Half the furniture was displaced and all of it was stripped of cushions. The main couch was backwards, as were two of the armchairs. Sheets and blankets were strewn everywhere. It took him a moment to realize what he was looking at.
"You guys built a fort in the living room?" He exclaimed, loud enough to disturb the occupants of the fort. Luke's head emerged from the fort, hair tousled and eyes half-mast. From a different area between blankets, Nonnie's head popped up too, long hair standing on end from static electricity.
"Shhhh," they chorused.
"What's going on?" Cap demanded, still half asleep and deeply confused.
"We're watching Lukey's birthday DVDs in a fort," Nonnie said matter-of-factly, and sure enough, one of the sheets that made up the forts ceiling draped over the top of the TV, and a vaguely blue glow emerged from beneath.
"Who else is in there? And why wasn't I invited?"
Luke ducked down again, though why she should have to check who she spent the night with was beyond him. The fort was certainly big enough for the whole SA to sleep in, he noted, as long as no one got too picky about personal space.
"Lou, Kim, and Anj," Luke reported proudly, as though she had just done some marvelously difficult piece of paper for SiSh. Cap raised an eyebrow. Luke didn't pull all-nighters very often, but when she did, she got *loopy*. "And you weren't invited cos you're a boy and boys have cooties." Yep, definitely loopy.
"Besides," Nonnie added with a slightly evil grin, "You were looking rather slap-happy last night. Wouldn't wanna keep you away from your bed."
Cap ignored her teasing, knowing that Luke was too looped to notice the look on Nonnie's face and that if anyone else in the fort was awake to pick up on what she'd said, they'd probably have poked their heads up by now.
"So I can't come in at all?" he asked, descending the stairs the rest of the way and stepping towards their monstrosity of a construction.
"No!" Luke said adamantly, shaking her head until her hair whacked her in the face. Nonnie's head jerked and from inside the fort came the sound of a pillow hitting a body.
"Hey, what didja do that for?" Luke whined, now in more danger of waking the forts other occupants than Cap was. Nonnie gestured downwards with her head, motioning to Cap to wait. Both their heads disappeared.
From beneath the sheets came the sound of muttered conference, then Luke's voice, clearly "But Nonnie, he's got *cooties*", more muttering, the sound of kissing , and then both heads reappeared, this time right next to each other, and both of their cheeks were pink.
"You may enter as long as you prepare us breakfast" Luke ordained imperiously.
"You do know it's not your birthday anymore and your Queen for a Day' status has expired, right?" Cap asked, already moving towards the kitchen.
"Yep. Now make me scrambled eggs. And bacon, lots of bacon!"
"And a baked potato" Nonnie added.
"That's not breakfast food!"
Nonnie raised an eyebrow, clearly saying 'do you want in this fort or not?'
"Fine. Eggs and bacon and a potato, coming up." At this point Cap didn't really care about the fort, but sleep deprivation had clearly made Nonnie evil to compliment Lukey's loopiness, and he was gonna make himself something anyway, and it was a pretty cool fort.
"Breakfast is ready" Cap proclaimed half an hour later. "Now can I come in?"
"Sure" Nonnie and Luke chorused again. Cap left their breakfasts on the counter and crawled in one of the openings. 'Oh my god' he thought 'did they turn this fort into the fucking TARDIS? It's huge!' He had just enough time to also notice Lou, Kim, and Anj sleeping peacefully before Nonnie and Luke brought the collection of sheets, cushions, and blankets crashing down on his head.
Outside, he heard the pitter-patter of feet and shameless giggles, then the clink of plates and the sound of two people hitting the slide. They were probably going to sequester themselves in Luke's room to eat and leave him to clean up the mess. He sat up, the three girls groggily fighting their way free of the detritus around him. "What happened?" Anj asked, rubbing her eyes.
"Nonnie and Luke stayed up all night." and no more explanation was needed. Totally giving up on the day, Cap lay back down in the soft mess and went back to sleep.
