lukepasqualinx AND PEOPLE ARE ACTING LIKE IT'S A TERRIBLE JOB TOO LIKE HOW DARE HE GET CONSTANCE A JOB AS HANDMAIDEN TO THE QUEEN ?!
the thing that gets me very confused about people saying that this was a dick move and an example of d’Artagnan controlling Constance and putting her in a job against her will is that this clearly isn’t how job appointments in the palace worked.
it’s not as if d’Artagnan was somehow in charge of appointing servants at court. He’s a freaking musketeer, not the steward or master of ceremonies or whoever made those kind of appointments. He didn’t just suddenly install Constance into the palace against her wishes. He recommended her to Anne. (Probably after Queenie was grumbling about her general lack of privacy and trusted friends to her loyal Musketeers - at which point d’Artagnan starts talking about this girl, Constance, oh my gosh she’s so pretty and brave and clever and lovely and her hair smells like strawberries and did he mention how brave she was, and caring, and smart, and generally the best best person in the world, honestly your majesty you should ask her if she wants to come to the palace you’ll love her. (With Athos rolling his eyes in the background and looking around for the nearest liquor cabinet))
And then it was Anne who made the choice to call Constance to the palace. This isn’t some kind of Machiavellian scheme going around behind Constance’s back, because to believe that you have to a: think that Anne has no agency or brains whatsoever and just lets other people choose her companions for her without judging all the info for herself, and b: think that d’Artagnan has wayy more power than he actually has.
