Greetings from a fellow Finnish artist and an aspiring patreon user! I've been waiting to see how your use of it would do and it seems to be doing pretty well and it's making me feel more confident about starting my own patreon. I'm just wondering if you're still using the same method you mentioned back when you were last asked, where you send the money to your bank account and then send a bill to yourself through eezy. Are you also doing it through Payoneer? Thank you in advance!
Hello!
Good question and no I am not actually. A few weeks ago, I announced that I started my own company name, BananaFly Tmi . As you can read in the post, the reason I did this was because the retirement insurance law changed in Finland in May (suomeksi sanottuna, itsensä työllistävien pitää hommatta ELO vakuutus). Eezy offers to get that insurance for you, but I was like, “eeeh, might as well finally start my own company, get the insurance and do taxing myself. So I did.
Starting your own company is now pretty easy. You can do it online and it costs 75 euros. More info on this site. You also have to do some “pay-as-you-ear” tax stuff but it’s mostly letting vero.fi know you’re now entrepreneur and you’ll be paying your taxes in advance. You let them know how much you think you’ll be making in a year, and they count you the taxes you have to pay each month. You also need to more than likely hire someone to do your accounting and that is still something I need to do. (that’s the other fun thing. Once you start a company, EVERYONE will come after you and offer their accounting services)
Good thing about all this is that once I get my money to my bank account from patreon and payoneer, I just have to put enough money on side that I need to pay my legal taxes and the rest is free to use. I don’t need to send the whole amount to eezy and wait few days to get my final paycheck.
Now, I don’t know if I’d recommend this from the get go tho. The biggest minus about it is that it will affect your possible benefits, like unemployment benefit. (but honestly, so would working through eezy). But for me, it felt like it was a natural next step since my patreon is doing so well and I am able to fully support myself with it (thank you everyone). It might be better to start with companies like Eezy and see how it starts. If you feel like expanding in the future, then starting your own company might be a good idea. owo)b
