if you must go for online learning (as you said, you live in the middle of... yeah), have a look at 'The Auslan Company'

I’ll be aiming for in person courses, but online is just easier access for me ahah

(i don't mind publicly posting) what i would suggest is, each country (and city within) usually has sign language short courses that you can do, either like one or two nights a week over a few weeks or some do intensive weekend courses (just all day saturday and sunday). In Australia, many of the deaf societies have these classes, as do other countries. I'd search them up, they are not free unfortunately but the cost is usually worth it. It's not recommended to learn any SL online.

I will definitely look for something like that in a nearby city!! I wasn’t 100% if that was offered [at least not intensive courses for hearing people]. I’ll have to see how close by it is, considering I live in the middle of nowhere pff. I’ll definitely research it though

I’ll definitely be ok with putting money forward, though, so that isn’t a problem.

(and I suppose I should have expected online learning to be the worse option, much is the same with spoken languages)

it would be better to learn Auslan, as you are in Australia.

I thought that, tbh, and I was probably leaning towards Auslan as well.

I just wasn’t sure about regarding me travelling, especially not being in Australia for a long period of time [especially during the period I would be learning].

Ive never found many resources for Auslan as well [although I feel that is just bad searching on my behalf].

fyi just because some countries speak English, does not mean their sign languages must be the same. Sign language is a naturally occurring language, and it exists in the same way the whole world doesn't speak just English.

oh i know!!!! but imagine my frustration when i find out that while i can easily communicate with certain people in certain ways, other ways of speaking to perhaps the exact same people are completely inaccessible even if we both had the requisite knowledge to do something similar regionally. i'm obviously not going to be as upset that, for example, i can't communicate with someone using german sign language because i probably couldn't have communicated with them in the first place. i'm not saying it's not reasonable or even expected, i'm just saying that it presents a barrier that i wasn't necessarily expecting. and i'm sure that's related to my privilege as an abled/hearing person so if i came off as insensitive or disrespectful that was my mistake and i apologize.
