hey, I don't know if this blog is something you still check, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for all you went through and hope you're doing better wherever you are now. I also wanted your opinion on something I've been mulling over, though please don't feel obligated to give ur two cents; feel free to just delete this, but do you think it's okay to make work inspired by the aesthetics of zdunich's? (1/2, sorry, text limit)
Thank you, hon! ♥
So, it would be absolutely insane for me to tell anyone that they shouldn't make work using Repo! (or any of his other creations) as a jumping-off point or basis. I'm sure I've said this before on this blog, but Shilo is still a character that I feel incredibly close to and there's nothing that's going to change that. (I jokingly refer to her, amongst friends, as my "original character".) I still create art/writing/etc. about her on a pretty regular basis, honestly.
So, that's to say absolutely go for it!!! Obviously a lot of his works are deeply coloured by his shitty perspectives on everything, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's created some really rich properties that can be read very differently from how he intended them to be. He didn't invent the concepts of devastating world plagues, body modification, the horrors of capitalism, or any of the tropes his characters embody. Take what you like and run with it. Make it your own.
