Tonight | Lulu & Luke
It was the night before Christmas Eve and Lulu was the last to get out of her shift at the restaurant, as always. Sometimes she swore she did so much for that place only to get paid as little as she did. At least the tips made it somewhat worth it whenever she finally got home and stuffed them in her mason jar. She locked the doors of the restaurant behind her and slung her purse over her shoulder, zipping up her coat and heading out to the hallway.
“Finally going home, Miss Labonty?” one of the security guards, Barry, asked. He and a couple of others would still be around at the closing of the business complex; she had found herself becoming small-talk acquaintances with Barry.
“Looks like it,” she said, smiling. “Night, Barry.” She pulled her beanie on over her head and head towards the elevator. Ding.
Any other night, the parking garage would still be somewhat full, but since Christmas Eve was in a couple of hours, most people had cleared out the building for the holidays. She head to her car, slipping the key in the ignition and twisting. Her engine sputtered.
“Oh, not tonight. C’mon, Mila, please,” she said. After countless attempts, she could only turn the ignition until the radio turned on.
It’s almost Christmas Eve and the weather outside sure will be frightful tonight. The snow storm expected to arrive Christmas Day came early and has already hit the area with a foot of snow. Visibility is pretty low out there, so I’d advise you to stay indoors and to make it home safely if you can. Otherwise, it’s best to stay off the roads.
Lulu growled, stepping out of the car and popping her hood open. Who was she kidding? She knew almost nothing about cars and only saw rusty metal gears and guts. She slammed the hood closed and pounded her fist on it. A moment later, she let out a loud scream. This could only happen to me, she thought.
