❛ i told you they had to be BEAUTIFUL. ❜
it wasn't that the girl in the portrait was ugly - by the standards of anyone else, she would have been considered all that & more, a lovely girl with wide, bright eyes which could shame the sky with their colour. it was only that ADAM'S standards were much higher than any other mans, & he SCOWLED at the sight of the princess in the portrait. who was she ? he hadn't bothered to pay attention when they had announced her name.
sprawled upon the throne, he turned to give a POINTED look at luminette, as if it were somehow her fault that he was so IMPOSSIBLE to please. he was vaguely aware of cogsworth attempting to salvage the situation, stammering out epithets such as ❛ musically gifted ❜ & ❛ exceedingly well-tempered ❜ but adam was more than happy to ignore him. what did any of THAT matter ?
he raised a hand, beckoning for luminette to approach as cogsworth fell quiet, finally realizing that the prince WASN'T LISTENING. ❛ you told me you'd hand-picked these women YOURSELF. how could you expect me to call ANY of them my wife ? i thought you had better TASTE. ❜
