Lighten Up!
At the Blight manor, things were… quiet.
Too quiet.
Edric leaned against the doorframe of the library, peeking inside. Amity sat stiffly at a table, nose buried in a book, her brow furrowed so hard it looked like she was trying to intimidate the pages into behaving.
Emira appeared beside him and whispered, “She’s been like that all morning.”
Edric nodded dramatically. “Grumpy Amity level: critical.”
Inside the room, Amity flipped a page with unnecessary force. “If you two are going to stand there whispering, at least whisper quieter.”
Emira smirked. “See? Confirmed.”
Edric sighed loudly. “Little sister, you’ve been studying for hours. Don’t you think it’s time for a break?”
“I’m fine,” Amity replied flatly without looking up.
The twins exchanged a glance. That tone meant operation cheer-up was officially required.
Emira stepped closer. “You sure? Because you look like someone who needs—”
“—a laugh,” Edric finished.
Amity finally looked up, eyes narrowing. “Don’t you dare.”
The warning came a second too late.
Edric scooped her up from behind while Emira snatched the book from her hands and tossed it onto the table.
“HEY—!” Amity yelped, squirming.
“Oh wow,” Emira said with mock concern. “She’s already giggling and we haven’t even started.”
“I am NOT—!”
Edric grinned and wiggled his fingers teasingly over her sides. “You mean like this?”
His fingers scribbled lightly into her sides.
“EHEHE—! EdrIHIHIC!” Amity burst into laughter immediately, twisting in his grip. “Stohohop!”
Emira gasped dramatically. “Wow, that was fast.”
“You should hear her when we tickle her belly,” Edric said.
“DON’T—!”
Too late again.
Emira poked both hands into Amity’s stomach, scribbling her fingers across the soft spot.
“NOHOHOHO—!” Amity squealed, laughter spilling out uncontrollably. “EHEHEHEMIRA!”
Her legs kicked helplessly as she tried to curl up.
“Oh wow, that spot still works,” Emira said cheerfully. “Good to know.”
Edric chuckled and slid his hands upward. “Let’s try another classic.”
Amity’s eyes widened. “Wait—Edric, noho—!”
His fingers slipped right under her arms.
“EEEEE!!”
Her laughter shot up an octave as she clamped her arms down instinctively, but Edric just wiggled his fingers deeper into her armpits.
“Looks like we found the jackpot,” he said.
“PLEHEHEHEASE—!” Amity squirmed wildly, face bright pink. “I CAHAHAN’T—!”
Emira joined in again at her sides, scribbling quick tickles that made Amity thrash between them.
Amity was completely helpless now.
“EHEHEHEHE— OKAY OKAY OKAY!” she gasped. “I WOHOHON'T STUHUHUDY ANYMOHOHORE!!”
Edric slowed his fingers but didn’t stop yet. “Hmm. What do you think, Em? Is she telling the truth?”
Emira tapped her chin thoughtfully while lightly poking Amity’s belly again.
Amity immediately burst into giggles.
“Ehehe—! NOHO! STAHAHAP!”
“Yeah,” Emira said. “She seems cured.”
The twins finally let her go.
Amity collapsed onto the floor, breathless and laughing softly as she tried to recover.
“You two are the worst,” she muttered, though the small smile on her face betrayed her.
Edric ruffled her hair. “You’re welcome.”
Emira tossed her book back onto the table. “Doctor’s orders: no more grumpy studying for at least one hour.”
Amity sighed… but she was still smiling.
“Fine,” she said.
Then she glanced up mischievously.
“But if either of you tells Luz about this…”
Edric and Emira immediately backed toward the door.
“…we’re running,” Edric said.
Because suddenly Amity’s fingers were wiggling.
