Over the eons Lunala heard many prayers of humans. Her home was the shining light in the dark, the beacon that shined through even the darkest nights. They prayed to the moon when there were no other gods to hear.
As though she cared what they wished.
Humans who shunned her children. Who forced her loves so far into hiding she had been forced to create a new home so they might live in peace. All the humans deserved was an end.
Unfortunately, Lunala had less control over that than the humans themselves. So she was forced to listen when her home shone bright in the sky. To the pitiful whinings of her lessers.
Sometimes, though, sometimes those prayers spoke of revenge. Of grief and hatred that turned one human on another. On every other human. Those tempted her to answer. A word here, a caress there. Of course she understood. None in the world understood the sting of betrayal better.
Each nudge and whisper a hook in the poor fool that drew her attention.
“Darling,” she crooned, her voice and touch dripping sweet sympathy. “Tell me what they did to you.”
