Hi! I've seen your posts on Lundy (first of all, you seem to be having great fun! :D) and I was wondering if you had any advice on long stays over there? I'd love to come and hang, but I don't think my back could handle more than two nights camping, and it seems the cottages are all only available for up to four nights at a time. Is it possible to walk from one cottage to the other maybe? Also what's the best season to go in your opinion? Thanks and enjoy!!
Hello!!
Firstly, which website are you using to look at stays? I always use the Landmark Trust page, and I've found some that go up to seven days - I suspect you could probably do longer if you got in touch with them directly at [email protected] 👍
So!! That being said - I've been twice, both times in August, and I had a great time both times. The weather is always super changable, so even if you go mid-august you're probably gonna get rained on. We missed puffin season, so if you want to see them I'd suggest going earlier - and next time we intend to visit either in spring or autumn to see what its like! (Saying that, late summer is when seal pups start being born, and they're AMAZING)
It's 100% possible to walk from place to place. Most of the accomodations are all clustered around the south end of the island within a 10 minute walk from each other - the Lighthouse is a little further out (but not SUPER far, that's where we stayed), as is the Castle. Tibbets is super far from everything else, though (maybe half an hour walk or longer?) - and also doesn't have electricity, so only go there if you can handle that lmao
Personally I couldn't imagine going there and not doing a long stay, there's so much to see that you can't fit it all in on a daytrip. The accomodation is all really nice, all set up for self-catering, and the beds are super comfy. The shop is pretty well stocked considering where it is, and the pub is expensive (understandably) but really good - and all the staff were lovely.
Also! There's basically no mobile/internet signal anywhere on the island. You can get it in fits and starts but its extremely unreliable. There's one (1) location with wifi, which is the church. This is a plus for me but might not be for everyone 😅
