My neighbor has been super lovely about catsitting traffic for me when I have to travel on short notice, so I'm painting her pets as a thank-you gift. This girl is Yoda, and it's easily my fave pic of the ones she sent
I love when people get really, really specific about small, offbeat things they love - jon bois is the king of this (pretty good? no. SUPPERJUMPIN'.) but it also goes back, always, to georges perec's the infraordinary. i like to think these would also be his jam:
My Strange Obsession with Gaming Elevators, Daryl Talks Games Exceptional for its breadth, framing device, and more than anything, the intensity with which this sanity check puts you in the same frame of mind as the narrator. it's not just joy, but also paranoia and wonder and awe. also, perfect description of that elden ring elevator that blew me away too.
Four-Byte Burger, Ahoy Most of Ahoy's videos fall in this category, but Four-Byte Burger gets the mention because it is so explicitly driven by an infectious, genuine love of the artwork he's recreating. I can't believe I got so aggravated getting recced this silly burger thumbnail, and now I can't believe how incredible it is to see it laid out like that.
Geologist answers: What is Stone, Gneiss Name The tone here is a little more subdued, but I really love it for that. A lot of stuff that takes digital worlds hyper-literally feels like an argument about what the "true canon" reality of a game is, but gneiss is a geologist who uses asking questions like "what is minecraft's stone?" as a way to explore both the mechanics and potential irl equivalents, with the joy being in the asking of questions. also, really neat use of command blocks for presentation!
sewing adventure 1 and 2, using the same skirt concept. skirt 1 i learned about pleating and that i can eyeball it but it'll look nicer if i iron, and made it a goal to do a real waistband. which i did using skirt 1's fabric for skirt 2, which i cared even less to pin right and ended up with uneven gathers + too much panel overlap for pocket access. but it's cute! the errors you can't see in the photos are very clear to me & easily improved next time! and reusing fabric for the second one makes it feel like a cool secret, or that i have an insanely coordinated custom wardrobe. which is kind of what's happening
1st vs 3rd attempt at making dinner look nicer.... everything in both was made either in the toaster oven or microwave. I do want to figure out how to plate canned carrots to be aesthetically pleasing someday; I would not say I "like" "eating" the scallions but it makes it prettier and I need to eat more green stuff, so in that way it's a win-win. I have more in a little baggie full of water for quickly adding to ramen or whatever.
genuinely truly delighted by my miserably bad embroidery. the terrible squiggly outlines of each flower petal, when you can even tell one petal from the next, give me a sense of light-hearted satisfaction. there are so many that I probably should do different areas so that it doesn't become a gradient of super ugly to slightly less ugly as you go down. but it's just nice to make a thing
dreaming of starting a movie club (streaming periodically on discord) that's just the most self-indulgent double features i can dream up. this would include things like:
titular public enemy - welcome ii the terrordome (dystopian drama), fear of a black hat (mockumentary)
lesbian imagination - a comedy in six unnatural acts (anthology of shorts), murder and MURDER (docufantasy)
eloise elevator heists - it's a mad mad mad mad world, detective, what's up doc
suck it ian fleming - ironfinger (spy comedy), the spy with my face (re-cut TV episodes released for film)
one man show - portrait of jason (documentary), secret honor (historical fiction)
movie of all time - tampopo (perfect), making of tampopo (also perfect)
autodocumentary - cameraperson (documentary), polisse (drama)
also an entire suite of Your Best Friend Unfortunately pairings, such as:
knock knock - girlfriends, mikey and nicky
for love or money - in bruges, the dumb waiter
yipee - the long goodbye (1973), the banshees of inisherin
