While I'm here (Hesh hoe #2)
He would 110% propose to you with his mother's ring if you're into that sort of sentiment. With some line in the proposal about how this was one of the last things they have of her, and he trusts you with this in the same way he trusts you with his heart and soul. Because Hesh doesn't love (in an intimate sense easily -- but when he does he loves hard).
It's a fact that I will never let my mind be changed on.
(Hes so close with/protective over his dad and brother, I know he'd be the same way if not a bit more intense when it comes to his mom. Or nieces/nephews if he had any....he would be the cool uncle).
This is literally the cutest thing I've ever read and it's so true!!
So he would not only get his father's permission to give you the ring, he'd also check in and make sure it was okay with Logan.
If Elias remembered the specific place he proposed to his wife, Hesh would take you there to as well. It made Elias so proud and let that be the only time you ever see the commander cry.
I imagine the ring is something really simple but pretty. (I don't know anything about rings or rocks or whatever) but I can imagine a simple gold band with medium sized diamond. Sitting there like it would fall off if you washed your hands with it on.
Hesh would also get you one of those twisty, braided ones as the wedding band just because he thought it would look pretty on your hand.
He really enjoys when you talk about the ring. Just on the day to day, it delights him so much. If you took it off to clean the house and wanted to make sure it was in a safe place, if you keep the box he proposed with on your nightstand at all times, if you refuse to take it off or he catches you looking at it. He gets so so giddy and will likely give you a kiss to subdue the butterflies.
The two of you were planning a date night when he was home from deployment. You both enjoyed the opportunity to dress up and see each other so cleaned up and happy.
It had been about 5-10 minutes since you kicked Hesh out of the room to get ready. Admittedly, this was always his favourite part of the night aside returning home with you. He's already seen your hair and makeup done but the moment you step out in a dress that looks like the gods made it specifically for you, it winds him every time.
He sat on the couch in his suit, Riley by his side keeping him company. And he sat there. And he waited. And waited... Surely something had to be wrong, so he yelled through the door.
"Doll, is everything okay in there?" he was worried you all of a sudden weren't feeling well or received bad news and was breaking down. The boy was preparing for the worst.
"Uh... Sort of?" Now what was that supposed to mean? You didn't sound hurt or sad, in fact you sounded a little sheepish. He took a much need deep breath after jumping to the worst conclusions once again.
"I'm coming in." And the sight that greeted him was certainly not at all what he was expecting.
It was you, in your underwear, ring attached to a dress still on the hanger in the closet. You looked up at him, a frustrated, thin lipped smile on your face, eyes pleading for help.
"I was planning to wear this dress tonight... I think your mother said no."
That night after your date, he led you to the bedroom and started to take your dress off (his second favourite part of the night). Except this time he took only his mother's ring off you too and placed it in the box on your nightstand. When met with a confused look, his only explanation was "She doesn't need to see this." It was a playful night to say the least.
There's never an evening where he doesn't bring that story up and he wholeheartedly believes that his mother sends signs through the ring.
