Hi, Anon! I’m so glad you chose to play this little game! Hopefully you enjoy it!
Markus + Luther = “Don’t die on me - please!” (feat. Luther/Kara)
Word Count: 744
The bullets that sliced through the air, ricocheting off ofwalls and bodies alike, were as loud as the screams that echoed off of them. Itwas chilling. Blood, red and blue alike, splattered the floor, stained theirclothes and hands, and Markus inwardly chided himself for liking the shade ofpurple they made when blended together. There was something poetic in thattrain of thought – one that he would go back to later, he hoped – but he hadother matters to attend to first.
Boot-clad feet pounded on the metal floor as he ran, charging the soldiers that threatened his people. Another body, another stain, but another android spared, for now. That was all he could do, after all. Hispeople came first.
The others – Connor included – were safe. Of that, he wascertain, but it didn’t quell the thousands of other voices that filled theinternal lines of telepathy with shrill, desperate pleas for help. Markus hadto be rational. He knew he couldn’t save all of them, but he could try to saveas many as he could. If that meant putting his own life on the line, then so beit.
“Don’t die on me – please!”
Markus’s eyes shot wide, as if they hadn’t already been onhigh alert. He whirled around, confused. The voice definitely belonged to afemale android, one that he had spoken to only moments before he was staringdown the barrel of Connor’s gun.
“Kara..?”
“Markus?!” Kara’s voice drowned out the others in thenetwork, and panic rose in the pit of Markus’s stomach. He remembered fromtheir earlier interactions that she had been with a little girl, and he fearedthe worst.
“Are you okay?! The little girl you’re with – “
“She’s fine,” Kara confirmed, “But Luther – “
“Luther?”
“He was travelling with us. He was shot saving us and – “
“Where?”
“Not far from second floor exit. In one of the hallways.”
Gritting his teeth, Markus growled. That wasn’t much to goon, but he had to do something, anything. He had already put Kara and thelittle girl in enough danger by keeping them here instead of helping them getacross the border like she had wanted him to. Hands on his head, he spun inplace, getting his bearings before running back the way he had come. It mighthave been suicide – there was only a 17 percent chance of successfully findingthis Luther, setting the explosives off in the hold, and escaping with aslittle casualties as possible – but he owed it to her.
As others rushed passed him in the opposite the direction,Markus reassured them, fighting off assailants, ensuring that as many of hispeople escaped. Even as they tried to sway him to follow after them, he urgedthem to leave him behind.
“Where are you?” he asked himself as he rounded anothercorner. He pursed his lips, glancing down each corridor as he fought thecurrent of androids pressing him back.
“Don’t die on me,” Markus repeated Kara’s words aloud. “Please.”
The sound of coughing, followed by the distinct sound of abody slamming into the steel walls echoed from the next hall down. Markus spedtowards it, coming face to face with a giant of a man, a TR400 that, upon doinga full body scan, had suffered a bullet wound to the leg.
“You’re Luther?” Markus asked, and the huge man nodded as hestaggered. Quickly, Markus reach out and held him up, slinging his arm around himand steadying him as best he could. “Kara asked me to find you.”
“Kara?!” Luther’s head shot up, eyes in a panic. “Did shemake it? Are she and Alice okay?!”
Markus nodded as he half-carried Luther on his side. Timewas running out. Cops and agents were entering Jericho from all sides. It wouldbe a miracle if even a hundred of them survived the raid. He had accepted thathe might not make it, but he had to get Luther out.
“Do you think you can walk?” he asked the larger man, andLuther nodded. “There’s an exit just up ahead. Find Simon. He can take you toKara and Alice.” Clapping him on the back, Markus stopped. If Luther was stillin any pain, he didn’t make any indication, aside from a minor limp.
“I can’t thank you enough,” he said, and Markus managed asmall smile.
“Just get back to your family.”
