Flowers are soft in all things.

Even here on the cliffs, nestled close to death’s edge, they do nothing but dance and murmur. Stories speak of heroes who jumped and sacrifices lost in the name of a greater good. But the blossoms they left behind saw nothing but the sun, tasted nothing but the rain, kissed no one but the wind.

He stands at the precipice and looks down at the sweeping arc of the Ward below him until a shadow covers the sun. A cloud, he thinks, but then he hears a cry and looks up.

 A flower is falling from the skies.

Not drifting, not dancing as one would expect, but plummeting in a dead drop. And then the four fragile petals reshape themselves as wings attached to a body and he is already sprinting the distance between them to catch her in his arms.

‘You alright?’ he asks. Lightly, gently.

The secret, he knows, to cradling butterflies.

New Years Eve was nothing short of a blast. As it always was for the Van Buren girl. She had a way of getting things to go brighter, funner wherever she went. She wouldn't stand for dull nights when she felt like she wanted to do something about it. That's where Mona strives in life you could say, she's determined, whether or not the 'something' of that determination is clear, the push still there and that's as much as she needs. So she thinks. After Mona had spontaneous, intoxicated make out session with Ruby; she paid her farewells seeing she couldn't blow off her plans with Lux, she was one of her bestest friends here and her biggest pain in the ass too.

It was a night full of chaos to start off, when a sober Lux drove a drunk Mona to a packed karaoke bar, they had been waiting their turn for almost ten minutes. They could only handle so many drunk thirty year olds covering Whitney Houston or other famous 80s love ballads. "Jesus fucking Christ. If I have to put up with one more drunk mom singing Holiday, I'm gonna puke on their Sketcher Shape Ups." Mona chuckled, a little bit of her drink going back in her cup from the laugh, she was very well as wasted as a toxic landslide. Nevertheless, Mona looked over at Lux and slurred in ger ear, "I'll be riiiiiight back." She said as Mona walked over to the person incharge of the karaoke staion, and requested to go up next, even if there was a few other people waiting their turn. It was only a matter of playing Hello Titty with him, and anything Mona said would be granted. Which later on was proven to be true. "Lux get you lazy ass over here it's our turn!" The brunette yelled over to Lux before Mona kissed the DJ on the cheek and walked over to the platform to grab her mic.

Finding friendship at this new school was something that Kez hadn't managed to do yet. It made her feel awkward that she had to remind people that he wasn't one gender or another, and because of that Kez didn't really want to try and befriend anyone who would (intentionally or unintentionally) refer to her as a boy or a girl. That was something that Kez really hated. While he didn't really care what gendered pronouns they used in terms of speaking to her, Kaz didn't like it when they didn't understand or acknowledge that there wasn't a gender that she stuck to, that she didn't feel like sex organs were something that he needed in order to live and function as a person.

With Lux, though, Kez wasn't really sure how this would work out. He had heard a few things about the person who ruled the school, Prom King Lux, and Kez imagined that anyone who had such a reputation clearly had to be either really intriguing or very wild. Of course, the thought only confirmed itself when the girl invited Kez to come and smoke with her outside in the cold. It wasn't what Kez would have initially decided to do, and having never smoked before, she wasn't sure what he was getting himself into, but Kez knew that it would hopefully end with a friend, and that was all that mattered when there really weren't any friends in the first place. There hadn't been before they moved here and there hadn't been back when her family still lived in Romania. Kez couldn't recall a time that friendship had been a part of his life, but hopefully here, in a place that was supposed to remain free of any and all judgement, she would be able to have a chance to find friends and experience what it was like to have them. Maybe then she would also be able to decide how he wanted people to refer to her as.

As Kez pulled on warm clothing to prepare to journey outside in, he thought about what it would be like to have friends, and decided that even if it didn't work out with this Lux person, it would still be an interesting experience because of the fact that she would get a chance to smoke for the first time and see if it was something that he liked or not. He scribbled a note for his roommates, the group of people that she didn't know at all, and then made her way out to the lobby so that he could wait for Lux and they could wander up to the top of some snowy mountain or wherever and get high. She wasn't really sure if she was looking to the experience or not, but Kez knew that it was going to be fun either way because it would be spending time with someone who wasn't her parents, and that alone would be something that Kez knew would be a good experience, even if he didn't like getting high in the end.
