It had been quite some time since the two had seen each other; after all, the distance between them had proven it difficult to maintain a relationship. It was his doing; Nanami knows this. He was the one who left, the one who created the distance between them in the first place. He figures choosing between life as a jujutsu sorcerer and the semblance of a normal life would have been easy if it weren't for Brooke. Nanami had proposed she come with him when he decided to take his leave – and though her response was not what he wanted to hear... he understood. It was a noble purpose, a noble cause. But it was one he nonetheless felt he had to distance himself from.
Try they might, they fell apart rather quickly. Distance between them – with Brooke on the outskirts of Tokyo and Nanami closer to its busy center – led to the unraveling of their relationship. And soon enough, their interactions diminished from visiting each other... to calls... to the occasional text.
But today? Well, today – Brooke had been handling business near his area. So, she reached out. Dinner? Suddenly, they had dinner plans.
"You look well," Nanami greets her, pulling her chair out for her as she enters the restaurant and approaches their table. The words feel foreign on his tongue. She looks... well? (If he wanted to be honest, he'd tell her she looks more than just... well. In fact, she looks beautiful, but – time and place. Neither are here. And perhaps they never would be again.)
"I assume everything with the cursed spirit went smoothly."
