“I just wanted…to kiss you good-bye.” | “Don’t forget. Not ever. Not for a second.”
“I just wanted…to kiss you good-bye.”
Janie stared at her best friend in shock, tracing the familiar face in confusion. She thought she knew Davina so well, but she hadn’t even suspected that she felt anything besides platonic love for her. She didn’t know what to say, whether to be mad that she kissed her without even a word of warning or to be upset that she hadn’t told her sooner, before she was leaving, or what ever else she might feel. She couldn’t exactly pretend it didn’t happen, but she did the next best thing she came up with. “You know, Connecticut's not that far. And it’s ... you know, it’s us. It’s not really good-bye.”
“Don’t forget. Not ever. Not for a second.”
“How could anyone forget anything about you?” she teased. It hadn’t hit her that she was leaving in a few months yet. She didn’t know how to feel about it, really. Leaving Davina was going to be one of the most painful things she’d have to go through, she knew, because she had known her her whole life. They had been best friends for so long, she couldn’t imagine her life without her in it. “I won’t. I promise, cross my heart, scout’s honor. We’ll totally facetime, too. You’ll be sick of me by the time I get home for break.”
