“ You stopped being my girl as soon as you wore that ring. ” Elijah muttered while wrapping his fingers around her wrists to tug her forward. His lips found her forehead at once, kissing it gently, before he tilted his head slightly back. “ I think wife will suffice. Or am I asking too much of you? ”

His tone was light and teasing, his defenses all shut because he had nothing to fear with her. Elijah nudged her nose with his own and smiled. “ I will need to have your old ring remade. Maybe kneel and ask you again too? ” He intertwined their fingers together whilst stealing a soft peck off her lips, eyes glinting.

➺ are you angry?

“ Angry? Angry? ” Elijah repeated in disbelief while looking at her, his eyes blown wide. He had given her very specific orders — do not come out until I declare it's safe. But even then Jacqueline had disobeyed him and nearly hurt herself badly. “ Angry doesn't begin to cut it! I'm well aware you're capable of protecting yourself but you don't have to do that when I'm around. Hunters are not average humans, Jacqueline. ”

He dashed towards her, towering over her form with his chest heaving loudly. Elijah guided his gloved hands to her shoulders then and gripped them tightly. The tremble in his fingers was not by chance; Jacqueline had given him a scare, making Elijah realize that he in fact cared far more than he was aware of. “ You cannot risk your life like that. When I have things handled, I mean it. I am capable of keeping you safe. I am. ” He insisted as if trying to convince himself more than her. His fingers flexed around her shoulders, tightening further.

“ I don't know. ” He said too quietly as if afraid of the words ever reaching her ears. They stood together, side by side, with his form towering over hers. Elijah tilted his head to the side to look at her properly; his expression was not disappointed but he was evidently holding back from something. Perhaps her.

“ Forever is a long time, isn't it? ” His gaze reached hers as they walked into the forest — it was the only place where Elijah found some peace. No noise or voices other than their own. “ I believe everything changes eventually, you know. We will keep changing as well, learning more things. ” Elijah smiled to her then, brief but genuine. “ The whole point is to still be there for one another even when that change comes. Otherwise, we simply were not meant to be. ”

He blinks in silence for a moment then adds with a shake of his head. “ Or I'm just simply planting silly thoughts into your head. ”
