Lyriss Esteam didn't hate many things. She had no room in her heart for it but there was special place reserved in the furthest deepest depths of hell for the cold. The tiny not even 5 foot mutant was not a fan of snow. Despite the wintry appearance of her stark snow white hair, glowy blue eyes, and silvery skin patches, she didn't like the cold. The only good thing about the cold and snow was that it was easier to wear layers to hide her body and skin. And was she ever covered! To normal appearances, she was just a  normal everyday teal.

Right now, she was rushing against the sidewalk from work, getting off and moving through the throngs of people that seemed to go in the opposite direction of herself. It was like fighting through a current, her small stature lost in the crowds of faceless nameless trolls all readying to go somewhere else. Maybe they too were trying to escape the cold. Maybe they were as desperate to get somewhere comfortable. The snow was the only thing that fell at a lazy pace, peppering Ly's hood with tiny white sprinkles.

It was almost like a dance as she made her way swirling through the crowds. She couldn't see many things other than the tops of trees and buildings and even most of them were obscured from view. Being short sucked sometimes. Being tiny, however, was torture. She was careful not to get too close, though bumping was unavoidable.

She finally got through the crowds, weaving through them like yarn to a loom as she slowed her pace enough to catch her breath and puffed frantic desperately hot blows of hot air on her cold fingers. She hopped over thin icy puddles of dirty slushy water as she memorized her way back to her apartment. Like a pianist to keys, her legs flurried across the sidewalks, careful to keep herself hidden. There was always that slight fear, even now burried in obscurity, that she would be found out. Mutants never had the luxury of being entirely safe, even when no one was paying attention to her. Even one small difference could out her and that was something she couldn't take the chance. That made her check her make up in store fronts. That made her pull her hood even tighter over her head; that made her pull her scarf further over her mouth.

She became so preoccupied with her thoughts of food, warmth, fear, and food that she hadn't realized she crashed into something with a thud. All of her went tumbling to the ground, her papers and odd knick-knacks spilling from her cross body satchel. She mumbled to herself as she rubbed her forehead as everything spread around her like a makeshift snow angel. Her free hand collided with a slush puddle as she groaned, eyes still closed as she tried to rub the pain away.

Peering with one eye open, she blinked. She didn't bump into something. Oh shit. She bumped into someone! She crawled to her knees as she went to the other person also successfully on the ground in her halo of work materials.

"Oh gods, I'm so sorry. Are you alright?" Lyriss patted all over her coat before nimble intrepid fingers dug into one of her pockets. She pulled out a clean but wrinkled handkerchief with simple embroidery towards the other person. The crowds were clearing out to only show a few stragglers as the snow continued its lazy descent towards the ground.

Aside for the super weird coloring on her face because i messed up and didn’t realize it, I sat here and attempted to learn how to make an actual moving talksprite

Lyriss fun fact: She has the ability to fully unwrap and fold a starburst paper using only her mouth and she likes to wow people with that at parties.

Zahzii fun fact: She can get intensely competitive and has popped about 6 sports balls in the heat of the moment:

My favorite flower ever is a spider lilly and I seriously think they’re neat and where I live they pop up only in the fall and only at my neighbor’s house so I go over there and steal all of them

I one time in college took a circus class for funsies and I found out that I was really good at spinning plates on sticks. (I got on the news!)

Salt and sweat dripped down Lyriss's face and directly into her mouth under her mask. Tonight was a solo mission. Leaving behind her partner--her matesprit--was always hard but she didn't want him more tangled up in danger than he already was. Didn't he understand that he could live a normal life? Didn't he understand he deserved to live and be as freely as someone on the hemospectrum could be? He was a highblood, nearly purple, and he didn't have to subject himself to the tortures all the time. Then again, neither did she. She could turn a blind eye completely to the horrors of the world. She could hide away forever, clocked in anonymity, and yet, like him, she chose her path. She couldn't keep her eyes closed forever. That was a luxury she couldn't afford.

She shook her head, her mask unmoving as she waved away her thoughts. She was of a singular action and purpose and in this moment her task at hand was freedom. She moved, scaling the building with ease, her hood hiding the silvery white sheen of her hair. Her plague doctor's mask hid her face. She was clocked in pure blackness to morph into the shadows. She kept away from the cameras, lavender stuffed into her pockets. She would be a phantom, a shadowy silent figure of freedom. Tonight would go exactly like every other night, smoothly, and she found herself at a loose gate in the ventilation system.

The building was mostly abandoned but used occasionally as a theatre. Who knows exactly what was done here. She stood on the roof, the grate in her hand as she slowly lowered herself into the shaft. Already the scent of decayed and dried blood and vomit filled her nose. She shuddered, shivering, as she could feel the residual emotions of fear sticking to her skin. Needles seem to stab into her skull as she could feel the lingering after effects of pain and torture.

This was a theatre of the most macabre sense.

This was a sacrifice center to some uncivil and wild god.  

This place had to be home to a sect of the Carnival.

She swallowed hard and tried to shake off her pounding heart. She needed to focus. Somewhere in this building there was a host of locked trolls. The clock was working against her. Every second of hesitation meant another potential life lost. Every second of stuttering meant less time to work. Who knows when they would be back.

Lyriss landed with a soft thud from the ceiling. It was dark in here, a pitch blackness that was only home to the void. She padded through the aisles. She had landed in the main area. She needed backstage. The seats were an off sort of color, a red that looked blurry and hazy in the dim light. It looked more rust in the dim moonlight that fluttered in tiny streams through the thick curtains. She hoped that it was naturally red and not the lingering stains of blood. She hated to think of whatever performances that happened here and performances were a loose term at best.

It was then that a spotlight came on. Rows of lights followed in precession. She looked around as the lights lit and turned her attention to the stage. There, far and front and center, was a troll standing vigilant. Was this a trap? She thought no one was here but the prisoners to be rescued! She gasped and rolled and ducked under a seat. Surely, she hadn't been seen yet.

....Right?
