wrioney where wriothesley visits lyney backstage before a magic show and lyney takes a kiss from him to imbue himself with good luck for the show. and then he leaves and wriothesley walks backstage until he’s near enough to hear lyneys voice as he talks to the crowd, and he listens to the pauses in which something magical that he can’t see is happening and then there’s a wave of the audience reactions—gasps, exclamations, applause. and even though the duke incognito would not attend in public just yet (maybe he will one day, when they’ve been together for a long time, when lyney has let it go public), he still basks in the wonderment that is the great magician lyney at his peak performance. and he knows later that night he alone will get to see the real lyney, makeup worn down from the spotlights, and mask removed in a way he never takes it off even around his siblings
