New Beginnings

Draco watched as Harry held tiny Scorpius close to his chest as they slowly twirled around the dance floor. Scorpius laid his head on Harry’s shoulder and popped his thumb into his mouth.

Find your someone, Astoria had said to Draco a few months after their son had been born, handing him a pen. Find a new beginning. Find your happy ending.

Draco had smiled, kissed her on the cheek, and signed his name on the divorce papers with flourish. And you find yours, too.

“Isn’t that just adorable,” said a charming voice to his left. Astoria sat down next to him and put her head on his shoulder. “Harry is amazing with Scorp, don’t you think?”

Draco merely nodded, overcome with a rush of joy so powerful it left him speechless.

Harry had been excellent with Scorpius. Since the beginning of their relationship, Draco had made it clear that if he wanted to date Draco, he would have to accept Scorpius, as well. Harry had smiled, looked at Draco with such sincerity, and said “of course,” and that had been that.

Astoria lifted her head off his shoulder and looked him in the eyes, her blue eyes alight with pride. “Have you found it?” she asked. “Your happiness, is this it?”

“Yes,” he replied, looking at his new husband, "I've found it."

Eternal Love

(i)

On their first date, Draco gave Harry a single red tulip. He was so tense that he could feel his fingers trembling as he handed the Muggle money to the florist.

“For a special someone?” the florist inquired, her eyebrows slightly raised and a warm smile parting her cherry lips.

Draco could feel the heat rising to his cheeks as he nodded, his head bowed. “First date,” he replied.

She cocked her head and looked at the vibrant flower. “Quite an admission for a first date.”

Gently grasping the tulip, Draco beamed and nodded. As he walked down the street towards Harry’s flat, he traced the stem of the tulip and muttered an inaudible, “I know.”

On their first anniversary, Harry reached across the vast expanse of their bed, hoping to wish his lover a good morning. When his hand met empty air, he frowned and sat up. To his surprise, upon Draco’s pillow laid a single red tulip, bookmarking a page in the book, The Language of Flowers.

Red tulips, similar to red roses, symbolize passion and love. Their warm hue reflects the belief in true adoration and everlasting devotion.

Harry traced the outline of each petal and held the flower close to his lips. “I know,” he said to Draco’s admission. “I love you, too.”

Harry grabbed the flower, placed it in the vase next to the first tulip, and reset the Statis Charm.

The flowers would always stay fresh. They were everlasting, after all.

“We’ve built a life here,” Draco said, stunned.

“I miss my family,” Harry replied, scooping the mashed potatoes onto his plate.

Draco’s face fell, his bottom lip quivering.

“Am I not family enough?”

When we were eleven, and I felt my heartbeat quicken as you approached me at Madam Malkin's, wide-eyed and curious. When we were sixteen, and you pointed your wand at me in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom, cheeks flushed and furious.

But when you look at me now, your soft emerald eyes loving and your pink lips smiling, I can’t help but lean into you.

Maybe it was the way the bed started to become too cold or the way your boisterous laughter no longer filled my every waking moment.

Maybe it was your smile, ethereal and gleaming when you had told me you loved me for the very first time.

My smile faded then, and yours did too.

I may have run, but I came back. I came back for you, Harry.

Two years in Wales couldn’t erase my love for you, so I came back.

You were in love when we locked eyes again, but it was not me to whom your heart belonged. My red hair and brown eyes had been traded for blonde and grey, the shade of our faded love. You looked at me as if I was a stranger, and maybe I was.

You’re still you, Harry Potter, but I’ll always be the girl that ran away.

@opalesqueopioid, here it is one month and one day late! But it's done, and it's here! When you asked me to write you something angsty about kidnapping and mind games, I immediately jumped on the idea. It only got better when you told me to let my angsty self run wild with the prompt. Only a minimal amount of tissues are required. I hope you enjoy it!

Actions From the Heart

"Bloody hell, Draco. I wish you would stop doing this to yourself."

Harry stands by the door, expression thunderous and eyes blazing. Draco doesn't remember unlocking the Floo. In fact, he's pretty sure he locked it for this exact reason.

Their friends always send Harry, Draco thinks through the fog of booze currently settling in his brain. They say he listens to Harry, but Draco doesn't want to look too much into why that is.

Harry approaches him and gently coaxes the bottle of whiskey out of his hands. The touch of their fingers feels electric, like a sudden shock of desire that burns through his veins. But Harry doesn't want him, his pleasure, or his pain. At least not like that.

"Nobody has seen you all week. No Floo calls, no owl, no nothing," Harry says, exasperation and frustration laced into his words. He takes one look at Draco's red-rimmed eyes and whispers, "Who was it this time?"

Through the drunken haze, Draco manages to plaster a watery smirk on his face. It's not a good look, but another boyfriend has left, just like they always do.

It doesn't hurt as much anymore. The conversations that end in 'Draco, you're clearly in love with someone else, and I just won't be a replacement,' no longer hurt the way they used to.

But Draco finds that Harry is always there to pick up the pieces, but he never stays long enough to keep them together. Yet, if prompted, Harry could go on for eternity about why Draco's playboy lifestyle is detrimental to his health, much to their friend's mutual dismay. He wishes Harry would choose to stay in or out of his life instead of torturing him, placing himself just beyond Draco's reach.

Harry hates one ex in particular, which just so happens to be the one he keeps going back to. Draco forces his tongue to work and manages to allow the name Cameron to slip past his lips, taking satisfaction in the way Harry's lips draw downward.

Harry sighs heavily and runs his hand through his hair, making it stand on end. Draco wants to smooth it down. Draco wants to mess it up. But Harry wouldn't want him to, so he doesn't.

Walking to the other side of the room, Harry lays his head against the wall, and Draco can almost hear him mentally counting to ten. "You know Cameron isn't a good person. He's not good enough for you, anyway."

Draco does know. Cameron is a manipulative, demanding, and highly possessive bastard. He doesn't make Draco feel all that good about himself, but at least Cameron wants him, which is more than he can say for the person he really fancies.

The possession is better than the sting of unrequited love. That's why he keeps running back.

Of course, he doesn't tell Harry any of that. Instead, he grumbles, "Well, no one else has any objections to him, so I don't see why you do."

That's a lie, of course. Everyone has objected to Cameron; Pansy, Blaise, Luna, Hermione, the girl Weasley, and even Ronald.

Harry's brows furrow and Draco wants to clock him upside the head. "Nobody likes Cameron. They tell you this every time you bring him around," Harry says slowly, almost as if he's speaking to a thick-witted child. He sighs in exasperation and says, "Why don't you ever listen to the people who love you, Draco? You know you deserve more."

Disappointment, longing, and rage bubble in the pit of his stomach, and the words come out unbidden, "Oh, so you love me now? Is that it?"

He wants Harry to hurt. Draco wants to see the vibrancy of his green eyes fade to dull grey as he throws insult after insult at him. But when Harry's head tilts and a faint blush creeps high onto his cheekbones, he finds that he can't.

Instead of responding, Harry sits next to him on the leather couch, fitting Draco to his side and wrapping a protective arm around him. Soft fingers slowly card through his hair as Harry leans his cheek onto the top of Draco's head.

It's not an answer, but with Harry, actions always speak louder than words.

An unspoken promise.
