hi there! i had a question about your gdoc #USERTAEHYUN. so i had read the tutorial doc you have with it but i’m still a little confused/lost on the LOGGING IN section with the psd and gif. so i had opened up photoshop and at the bottom of #USERTAEHYUN went to the link you had at the bottom for the psd but i really am still at a loss for the timeline, smart object, clipping mask and all that. i thought i had it, but then i realized i didn’t lol. please help!
there's no shame in being lost with ph.otosh.op, i remember a time when i couldn't do anything in that godforsaken application to save my life.
but i see it's time for a tutorial, because smart objects, timelines, and clipping masks can be particularly tricky to those who have not familiarized themselves with those terms + what they do. so, under the cut is a tutorial.
✩ ― terminology ⨾
before we begin our tutorial we must first get comfortable with the terminology that's going to appear throughout the stages of our work.
so, what is a clipping mask exactly ? a clipping mask's official definition is - a group of layers to which a mask is applied. but i much prefer to describe it as the funky button that turns my image into a shape.
here's the difference between no clipping mask & a clipping mask. with this tool at our disposal we've opened the door to creativity beyond our wildest dreams - or, well, as creative as photoshop will allow. in #usertae's case, our clipping mask is an eclipse, which is named accordingly in our layers.
and how do i apply my image to the mask ?
it is generally done by putting your image layer above the eclipse / shape layer, right clicking the image layer, and selecting create clipping mask.
here is what that looks like while scrolling. but before you go ahead and do that, you must first convert your gif into a smart object.
and what is a smart object ? i'm not sure what it actually is, but i just know that it needs to be applied to our gif to make sure it doesn't break.
open your gif but do not drag it into the clipping mask psd. when it's open we're going to look at the timeline and click this button circled in blue.
when you've clicked it the timeline should look like this.
now, we're going to look at our layers panel and shift + click our first and last layer in the LAYERS panel to make sure we have everything selected like :
once that is done we're going to right click + convert to smart object. when that's done, all of those layers should turn into just one layer that looks like :
and we're going to click + drag the layer onto clippingmask.psd and make sure it's above eclipse, like this :
then we're just going to work our clipping mask magic. as stated above, right click + create clipping mask on "layer 1".
and that's it, you should be ready to go. delete the color fill as it's only there to show you what you're doing - and make sure in the timeline that this circled thing is at the end of your first bar - just drag it :
✩ ― exporting ⨾
now that you're done, click file -> export -> save for web & your gif should be complete. here are my settings for guidance, you may copy them.
hey everyone! as asked by some people, here's a tutorial and how i colour manga! thank you to anyone who's ever liked my creations, i really appreciate it ♡
1. BACKGROUND
i use adobe photoshop and my laptop's trackpad
i was initially inspired to start colouring manga by other creators on here! some tutorials i used when getting started were angie's (@sugawaras) colouring tutorial here, and ana's (@aizawashoutta) tutorial here!
this is just how i colour manga personally (and i haven't been colouring for long), and i am still improving! remember to have fun and be proud of what you make!
2. CLEANING AND REDRAWING
i'll be using this panel from haikyuu!! chapter 210 that i posted here
first, i'll delete the background using the eraser tool
as you can see from the panel, hinata's arm has been cut off, so i'll redraw anything that seems to be out of the frame
the shadows in the panel are too dark for me, so i make a grey fill layer on top of the panel and set it to divide
this makes the lines (and the shadows) lighter, and i save this as a .png and insert it back into the .psd file
when the .png is inserted back into the file, i erase the white background off the picture using the background eraser tool, so the image above should now be transparent, with the exception of the lines
3. COLOURS AND SHADING
i work in parts, where i'll colour the base layer for one part (eg. hair) and shade that part completely before moving on to the next part
normally, i start with the skin colour base layer:
i use three shade types on the skin base: (1) blush, (2) soft brush shading, (3) hard brush shading
all shade layers are set to "clipping mask" on top of it's base colour
i'll do the above for the rest of the panel (eg. hair, clothes, items, etc.), with the exception of the blush layer
if there's already some shading on the original panel, i'll just do a base colour and no shading!
i'll also normally add some sort of texture on top of my colouring here, and i'll set that layer mode to soft light, and change the opacity to low (15%–30%)
i put the texture layer on top of everything, including the outline
this is how it looks like after all the base colour/shading + texture:
4. LIGHT EFFECTS (LIGHTEN, SCREEN, ETC.)
as you can see from above, the outline is all black
on top of the outline layer, i'll add light effect layers (i don't know the actual name of these layers sorry)
an example how one of these layers look like before making the layer mode lighten
this is how it looks like after i change the layer mode to lighten:
i'll add lighten/screen layers where i see fit: normally these layers are in the hues of red/orange, but if a character has black hair i might add some lighten/screen layers with some blue tones instead
this is how it looks like with all those layers added:
this is the final order of my layer/groups:
the hue group is any adjustment layers i will add (eg. hue/saturation, selective colour) to adjust the colours of my colouring if need be!
5. NOISE AND BACKGROUND
i'll normally add noise to the finished coloured panel (around 2%-5%)
this is when i'll add a background/any other effects i want
and this is the final look!
and that's it! thank you if you got this far, and i hope this was somewhat helpful! ♡
I wanted to do something for a recent follower milestone and it seemed like tutorials were a pretty popular request, so I’ll do a few! Btw, I’d love if you like or reblog if this was useful to you, just to have a baseline of who’s interested. And please consider buying me a coffee if you can, it really helps me out.
This first one is going to be how I do basic colouring on my gifs. Now, I’m assuming that you know how to make gifs, if not these few gif tutorials really helped me.
For this tutorial I’ll be going over a super simple way to colour gifs. We’ll be going from this:
to this:
So, create your gif, add sharpening if you want. I’ve heard that this action is good. If there’s an obvious tint to your gif, like if it’s really yellow or blue or something, you’ll want to colour correct. I use the method explained in this video tutorial. Here’s an action to condense the work. This step is optional, but good if you have a really badly tinted scene like this one:
The next thing I do after that is add a colour fill layer and set it to soft light. This is a great, simple way to brighten a scene while preventing it from becoming too grainy. Pick a colour like red, orange or sometimes pink, and pick a colour along the far left side of the colour picker, around two thirds of the way up. Like this:
Play around with it until you like it, just be careful to not go too light or too far right or it’ll be tinted in a way that won’t look good. Now this gif has gone from this:
To this:
It’s brighter, but it still looks pretty dull. Notice there’s not a lot of contrast? You can just add brightness/contrast, but it won’t look as good as adding levels and curves. It does’t have to be a whole lot; this is what I did for this gif:
Side note: When giffing poc make sure to add that lower point, otherwise they’ll look really pale and washed out and you don’t want that; especially when giffing people’s faces. Now we’re here:
Doesn’t seem like a big difference, but if you add levels:
It now looks like this:
Contrast and brightness, without too much graininess. It still looks a little dull, so we’re going to add some selective colour.
This is really dependent on what kind of scene you’re giffing. Here, there’s a lot of movement, not a whole lot of close ups on people’s faces, and there’s already quite a bit of natural brightness in the scene even before I added that stuff. So find the colours that stand out, and make them more prominent. (Keep in mind that if you add as much red as we’re doing here for a close up of someone’s face, they’ll look too red). As a general rule, increase the blacks at least a bit unless it’s already super dark. This scene is at 5+ black.
Now focus on other colours in the scene, this one has red, blue and black, with the rest of the colours not really standing out. (There’s some green but not enough, and not much can be done with the gray). So since we’ve already focused on black, we’re going to move on to red and blue. I tend to clump cyan in with the blue unless it’s a pretty clear distinction. Here’s what I did for the three:
Blue:
Cyan:
Red:
You don’t have to crank them up to 100 or -100 each time, just go with what feels right, and with practice you’ll get an eye for what looks good (literally what I did). For comparisons, this is what it looked like with no red:
and no blue or cyan:
and no blue, cyan or red:
Here’s what it looked like without editing:
Finally, this is what it looks like now with everything we’ve changed:
That’s it! This is a super simple base, and every scene and gifset is different, but I hope it helps new gifmakers who are just starting out. I’ll be posting a much more complex tutorial for how I gif now, with a focus on badly lit scenes, so keep an eye out for that, and shoot me an ask if you have any questions! Also if you liked this tutorial and it was helpful, again please consider buying me a coffee, it really helps me out and gives me more free time to make stuff like this!
Miniee, me ensina a baixar psd e aplicar da forma correta?
pra aplicar o psd no photopea, faça assim:
