@multisuperfluity (for Phineas!)

She had been waiting for what felt like all eternity in this dusty place.
The air was always so musty. So stagnant and lifeless. When was the last time she had seen a child in this store? It was always older women looking for antiques, or teenagers looking for vintage style clothes. Nobody ever came in wanting toys.
So when she spied movement across the thrift aisles, her leather ears perked. Slowly, carefully, she picked her way through the shelves and pushed aside old tea kettles and knick-knacks to get a better look.
This newcomer was shorter... He certainly looked young. Could it be...?
Unable to let the opportunity pass her by, she eagerly called out,
"Hey! Hey, little boy! Over here!"
As soon as his attention was caught, she hit the deck, going still and playing possum. As if the toy had never moved or spoken at all.
