The M-28 or M-29 Davy Crockett tactical nuclear recoilless gun, deployed by the US army during the cold war. It actually fired a nuclear warhead, with a range of about 3 miles, unfortunately that was also the fallout radius, so the weapon would also require a tactical retreat. It was tested successfully for the president at the time to view. A total of 2100 were made, some would be mounted on the Willys MB jeep, they were deployed with the US army on several occasions but were never used against the enemy (whoever that was at the time) and the units were deactivated in 1968.
