His eyes didn’t leave hers as she backed away slightly- a move that was completely normal, but left him with a pulling sensation anchored in his chest. Her eyes held his, and he felt himself getting lost again. His eyes blinked a few times as she spoke, his attention pulled back to her words, and he moved his attention to the sheet of paper in his hands.
His brows rose as she revealed that she had the same class as him, and he’d be lying if he said his pulse didn’t pick up as their eyes met again. History just might be his new favorite subject. “I’d hate to have a bad history teacher, so that’s good to hear.” He chimed, his tone a lot more playful than his usual demeanor, though the sentiment was genuine. He knew how to push off the vibes he could sometimes give- and how to make himself seem less threatening, something he’d had to learn how to do after being accused of murder. This time was different though- it didn’t feel as forced. He was on edge, but it wasn’t for the typical reasons.
Their walk wasn’t long, but it felt like it was- it took everything in him not to focus his attention on her, he didn’t even dare to steal a glance before they reached the door- He was swimming in thoughts and sorting them out was going to be impossible until he was alone again. His attention snapped to her irises as he let out a light laugh. “Yeah, let’s see how long that excuse works for us.” He mused with a slight smirk.
He opened the door and Mr. Perkins attention focused on them. “Sorry we’re late- I’m new, and I was lost.” He spoke with sincerity. As she had suspected he wasn’t upset, and Billy took the open seat beside her in the back.
