My deathscape au starts when Sunny kills himself abruptly, before the headspace comes to a proper ending point, leaving it to continue in a strange liminal space. According to the laws or reality, it should no longer exist, but it instead starts to become a malfunctioning and decaying headspace. All of the characters within headspace are oblivious to it until things start going wrong, and they don't know that they were never real.

So the main gang is about to start fighting Sweetheart when Omori suddenly starts bleeding and fades out of reality. Left confused and vulnerable, the others get attacked by Sweetheart. Aubrey gets toasted first in the chaos, but Hero calls for surrender when he realizes she can't be revived.

Kel and Hero are taken prisoner by Sweetheart and things are pretty bad for a while (when the animatic takes place) but as the headspace continues to deteriorate, characters (including Sweetheart) fade out of headspace leaving the Sproutmoles to promote Hero to the leader giving him the power to free Kel and try to figure out what's happening to their world.

After that, I haven't fully figured it out, but Basil is forgotten (at least for a while), and Mari is gone without a trace. Tbh I hadn't thought of stranger but I definitely need to incorporate them.

Subject to change: As the brothers start to lose hope and their world continues to crumble around them, they find a way (maybe Stranger leads them to it) to see what happened in the real world. With this information, Hero falls into silent grief like he did in the real world, but Kel refuses to accept it. He starts sobbing and screaming about how it can't be real and how he misses his friends and eventually yells, "I wish Aubrey was here!"

To everyone's surprise, Aubrey blinks back into existence.

After a lot of confusion and explaining, Kel tries to bring back Omori and Hero pleads for Mari, but they won't return. They eventually come to the conclusion that since headspace is connected to the real world, with the insight that their reality is a fiction, they can restore the fictional elements of headspace and the characters based on still living people. So from here the trio tries to recover together, eventually finding Basil, and try to keep headspace alive.

Also , side idea: Basil, Kel, Hero, and Aubrey start having dreams about the headspace gang's adventures after the headspace gang become aware of reality leading the irl characters to eventually come back together to discuss their strange dreams after they all became more separate than ever due to Sunny's death.
