Admittedly, Merrill latched to the people around her. Especially when they were in her life repeatedly for some reason. In Elias’ case, they were neighbors, and more often than not, she had asked him to fix this or fix that. For some reason he always did and she offered him tea in return. She was very skilled with her tea, it was always savory and crafted in the most delicate way possible.
The opposite of this situation. She avoided bars, not that the taste of alcohol was not to her liking, it was, but the sounds were overwhelming at times. And then there was the fact that she tended to just stare at conflicts cause they were fascinating to her, got caught in the crossfire of it more than once and then just ended up in custody too. So really, she avoided it to make it so everyone could be less worried about her.
The fact that Elias was there, was just a bonus and she had just invited herself to his table. He seemed absent, and while talking a bit about how their other neighbor had left the trash can on the curbs for days now and it attracted rats, she paused and followed his gaze towards the pool table.
« I then took the rat and ate it … ». no reaction. « I licked the trash can… ». still no reaction. « I took the trash can and threw it at the neighbor. » Merrill cocked an eyebrow. Oh he was gone gone. Some whisper in her head told her that maybe they weren’t that interested, Merrill nodded, it seemed so. She tried again by randomly thinking about monopoly money and that got a reaction. She made a face. « Of all the things , that’s the one that got you paying attention ? » she wondered out loud. Her big eyes were just focused on him.
« You know if I bother you, you can just say so, I won’t be offended at all. I understand , you know ? When talking is not what we do in social gatherings…I was just genuinely happy to see you here and you seem rather lonely. » She bit her lip. « Still talking am I ? I’m gonna just …drink this now and stop talking. » She took a sip of her drink to have a reason to not swim more in her words.
