researching Welsh symbols
When looking into Welsh symbols, lovespoons were at the forefront of my mind, as they are such an iconic and distinguishable part of Welsh craft. While I would love to try my hand at using my 3D skillset to create a physical lovespoon in the future, for the sake of the module and my tufted outcomes, I thought about ways I could incorporate the symbolism of a lovespoon into my work.
I drew up some quick sketches, thinking about how each piece could be gifted with an accompanying card explaining the meanings behind the imagery used. The idea for a larger rug encompassing a handful of lovespoon imagery was inspired by some rugs made by amyhastingstextiles on instagram- which can be found in the ‘research’ tab.
