The Road to Aarhus
Doppelgänger @ Media Architecture Biennale 2014, Aarhus DK
A video of our installation with Open Constructs at the Media Architecture Biennale 2014 in Aarhus, Denmark.
FOLLY
Our pavillion made of 2000 foam pieces at the Media Architecture Biennale - November 2014 at Godsbanen in Aarhus Denmark hosted by Aarhus University and Media Institute of Denmark. The Pavilion was the result of a workshop at the Media Architecture Biennale 2014 in Aarhus Denmark. Participants put together the blocks to shape the pavilion as they wanted. Pathways throughout the pavilion were created to offer a variety of ways to circulate and experience the spatial qualities of the pavilion and its projections.Participants also programmed their own affects that were projected onto the pavilion. A project by Open Constructs.

Haiii ..! so this is the better version with better quality and explanation.
Gallery for The Walker have a big purpose behind - to add more spaces for the pedestrian, to give back the stolen right from the pedestrian!
Hope u like it :)
,Enjoy !
This is our video! Finally it's fully uploaded ;)
Hope you guys enjoy this Gallery for The Walker :D
Final BriefNote
The Concept
Our Big Message
Yogyakarta used to be a peaceful and comfortable city for everyone, including the pedestrian. But nowadays it is full of cars and motorcycles and congestion began to happen everywhere in the city. To analyze why do we have these terrible congestions, we tried to create a simple cycle scheme based on our experiences:
Lot of people use vehicle -> Congestion & messy parking lots -> Lack of space for pedestrian -> Not comfortable -> Walking is not fun anymore -> Pedestrian bowed out -> Pedestrian starts to use vehicle -> Congestion & messy parking lots…… and the cycle goes around.
Our big goal is to break that cycle. We want to add spaces for the pedestrian, make the walking experience as interesting as possible so that more people would be triggered to walk and be a pedestrian and in the end, make the stakeholders facilitate the pedestrian. Bring back the peaceful and comfortable Yogyakarta.
Gallery of The Walker
Gallery of The Walker is one of the facility available from the Pedestrian App, an exclusive app only for the pedestrian. We believe by creating Gallery for The Walker we could engage as many as people to be a pedestrian and measure it. The idea of the gallery is simple, to offer the pedestrian something that a vehicle can not offer, create a gallery that only a walker can enjoy by using architecture and building as the media of the gallery with mobile device application to access. What’s unique is the gallery is on the street, it’s actually an existing building which could be projected with a curated visual art piece but… the pedestrian could only see it from their camera phone/tab which install that Pedestrian App. The name Walking came from the mobile system of the sculpture that is placed in every front of the targeted building.
Exclusivity and the feel of being special is the thing that we want to reward the pedestrian with. For example, to enjoy the Gallery for The Walker one have to complete a walk from a sculpture to another sculpture. Where's the place for the sculpture? It could be placed anywhere but in this case we placed in front of the historical buildings, as the core of the site we chose - KM 0, Yogyakarta-. These sculptures functioned as the starting and ending point detector for the challenge. The challenge and the reward itself could vary but still leads to one goal: triggering people to be a pedestrian.
Positive Side Effects
Beside our big message, there are also several side effects that invented by this project. For example, the Pedestrian App also calculating data of its user which could be used as a survey parameter for the government thus they will know how many is the pedestrian. In the other hand, by creating Gallery for The Walker, local artist talent could be enhanced. Simply by submitting their artwork into the Pedestrian App portal and competed to be chosen based on voting system. The Gallery will also add a new colour to the city’s identity and the best thing is this system could be adapted in other country with different culture and people. It is sustain and flexible.
The Design Process
We started this competition with understanding the briefcase. The issue about data is not really familiar for us thus each of us was trying to interpret the briefcase and discussed it together. Then we did some brainstorming using sticky notes and (a lot of) papers to gather general idea. After that, we sorted our way of thinking based on Building and Issues. Thus we asked for each of our member to deliver a complete idea consisted of the core idea, the background, the kind of data and how it will create a social impact.
Up till the midnight the brainstorming process still going on and we tried several methods such as inventing a random notions and developed it together nor write our thoughts in the mirror. Feels like need a charge of inspiration, the four of us take a ride to the heart of Yogyakarta to figure out what building and what issue is urgent and interesting to solve. After the ‘short getaway’ we tried to gather our ideas, clear up our mind and decide what are we going to do in the morning.
We conducted an interview session in the project’s site in purpose to know what is actually needed by the pedestrian and to feel the plus and the minus of the site. After the interview we concluded the need of the pedestrian and seeking government’s plan because we want it to be on the same track as the city’s vision. The following things we do is to evaluate and asking for some friend’s opinion about our idea, evaluate again and finally to ensure if each of the member’s perspective is the same: to agree with our final synthesis and complete the final product -the video and the briefnote-.
The Response
Our friend’s opinion towards our idea is fine and their suggestions been really helpful for us in developing our idea. To join this competition has been an unforgettable experience for us. It’s been really pressing, tense and fun at the same time.

We really liked the idea of this video mapping on a heritage building. It creates a unique vibe and could be such a solution to a decaying urban spaces. It is sustainable cause the visual could be changed depends on the request or maybe... the hottest issue/trends.
We are thinking abt making this exciting facility for the pedestrian. But exclusive, only for them, as a reward for their effort of walking and not contribute a pollution for the city.
Well... well... well..
*thinking*
Is the Pedestrian case a real case?
All of our team member agree that pedestrian is an urgent case in our city, Yogyakarta, Indonesia and so does our other friends and even for the random pedestrians along KM 0. But is there any effort from our government towards this pedestrian issues? Is it an issue for them?
Thus we seek some information from newspaper and websites and found some articles that related to our issue - Pedestrian in Yogyakarta.
City Government of Yogyakarta began to socialize and early trials pedestrian Malioboro, Sunday (26/01/2014). The test is done through programs pedestrianisasi Car Free Day (CFD) in cut road Ahmad Yani, from the junction Ngejaman to Kilometer Zero Point, Sunday (01/26/2014).
"This is the beginning of the application of semi-pedestrian in the city of Yogyakarta. So some sort of test or socialization of the municipal government. From here residents will know, what if the the Malioboro later converted into pedestrian area (pedestrian)", said Mayor of Yogyakarta, Haryadi Suyuti.

There is a big masterplan for making Malioboro (the city center of Yogyakarta - red) as a pedestrian area and it will be started from the south part or the KM 0. There will be a plaza pedestrian in the middle of KM 0.
The existing area had already been a car free day area for every Sunday from 6-10. "That car free day duration will be increasing due to the development of plaza pedestrian.", said Aman Yuriadijaya, Mayor's Assitant (29/4).

Thus by analyzing those articles we believe that our idea is on the right track. It is true that pedestrian issue is real and urgent thus we have to design something that would trigger
