A cheap way to explore the Bosphorus is offered by the public ferries that traverse the Bosphorus from Eminönü (ferries dock at the Boğaz İskelesi) on the historic peninsula of Istanbul to Anadolu Kavağı near the Black Sea, zigzagging between the Rumelian and Anatolian sides of the city. Anadolu Kavağı is a sleepy fishing village located near the narrowest part of the Bosphorus. But the ruined castles, fortifications and ancient temples that surround it show how strategically important the area has been for millennia. The hills above the village give a beautiful view of the water and a welcome respite from city noise.
