10 Rules to staying Classy, Polished & Poised

When I was setting up my inspiration photo board I found an article I had saved and follow on a daily routine. InStyle Magazine Sept. 2009 came out with a list of 10 Ways to Look More Polished. I absolutely abide by these and have modified them slightly to my liking...

1.Manage your Mani/Pedi- Nothing is more unprofessional than chipped nails and unkept hands and feet. If you dont have time to go the salon, keep a good neutral color like OPI's Sweetheart or even just clear polish in your handbag for a quick fix!

2. Don't Forget Your Signature Scent- "The woman who wears big glasses, carries a chic bag, and never has a hair out of place also makes a bold statement with her perfume. That means wearing scent 24/7-even with a T-shirt and jeans"- InStyle Mag. *My go to scents: Kilian Love & Cruel Intentions or Monyette Paris.

3. Practice Your Posture- Be poised, but natural looking, we are not robots. Pull your shoulders back, chin up, no one can see your gorgeous face if you're staring at the ground, and no man likes a hunchback.

4. Skip the Pony Tail- Ponytails are for the gym or young girls. If you insist on wearing a pony tail skip the scrunchie for a barrette clip. I prefer a chic bun at the back center of your head. Secure with bobby pins and Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer hairspray.

5. Lose the Shine and the Orange- You only have one face, take CARE of it. Get a flawless look with micronized face powders and concealers. Go to a makeup counter in a department store and ask for a consult on face makeup. You may think you know what your skin color is but chances are you will look pale or worse, orange. my two favorites are MAC Studio Sculpt or Chanel's Perfection Lumiere.

6. Plan Ahead- Time management is a necessity in staying organized, happy and beautiful. Book appointments for yourself. Get your eyebrows wax, make that hair appointment, schedule a yoga class. WRITE IT DOWN. I keep a planner with me at all times so I know exactly what I need or where I need to be. You don't want to be the hot mess running down the street from the salon with foils in your hair because you forgot to also grab your dry cleaning. VERY UNCHIC.

7.Find Your Beauty Uniform- An everday look will keep things simple and easy. I usually go for a lightly neutral shaded eye, mascara, blush (ALWAYS), and lipstick. A man always notices your lips first. 

8.Stock up on Hairspray- I use hairspray religiously. It prevents frizz, keeps hair neat and polished. My fav, Shu Uemura's Sheer Lacquer. Another great product Bumble&Bumble All over Spray.

9. Keep Wardrobe Essentials in Your Car/At Work- You never know what surprises your social life may bring you, so it's best to always be prepared. I always have a jacket and either flats or heels in my trunk at all times. 

10. Wake Up in Time to Get Ready- "In a perfect world we would all clock our share of z's and be bright-eyed to start the day. But in fact, statistics show that less than 30% of us get enough sleep. Prepare for the day the night before. Set a standard time to get in bed. Do not hit SNOOZE. Give yourself plenty of time to do your daily routine. In the words of Holly Golightly: "I mean a girl just can't go to sing sing with a green face."
