Staffa is formed out of hexagonal basalt columns like the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland and Devil’s Postpile in the Sierra Nevada. It also has Fingal’s Cave, a large sea-cave on the south side of the island. Staffa and Fingal’s Cave were the inspiration for Felix Mendelssohn's overture The Hebrides.
