happy happy 52nd birthday to paul mccartney’s RAM. it’s a religious experience to undergo (because i swear, that record has wizard magic in it). not only does its production have the most tragic and interesting backstory, it's also a beautiful piece of work. as a precursor to indie pop/folk, it holds a special role in the music industry and has influenced so many artists today. its lyrics and instrumentals are so incredible. many call it the first wings album based on how denny seiwell played drums and linda mccartney was credited for half of it, but i disagree. i think RAM is pure paul mccartney—experimental yet simple, cheesy yet poignant, angry yet kind. it’s a heartbroken album. it’s about starting over and leaving those you love because they've hurt you. it’s silly and fun, but it hits HARD. and it works, despite all of its mixed influences and arbitrary stylistic choices. it might be my favorite album in the entire world.
