MACHACA ROCK FEST 2024
La machaca (Fulgora laternaria) is an insect of the order Hemiptera, it's mostly known for the myth: "if you get sting by a machaca you need to make intercourse within 24 hours or you will die", but in reality this insect is harmless and feeds on sap.

Judith Machaca was last seen on her way home from work in her home town of Tacna in southern Peru. The environmental engineering student had been working part-time at a mobile phone shop and would always send a message if she was going to be late.
The last text message from her phone was sent at 11pm on 28 November and the next day her distraught father reported the 20-year-old’s disappearance to the police. They sent him away, saying that she was probably with a boyfriend and would show up soon enough.
Machaca never came home. When the police continued to do nothing to investigate her disappearance, her family began to protest, holding vigils outside the police station with placards reading “Where is Judith?” and “Police cover-up”.

I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this festival other than Metric but it fucking delivered. Although Metric only got to play like 9 songs, it was still a blast and the people next to me were super nice and friendly, so waiting almost four hours in the sun to see them wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be. Plus the guy next to me at one point was like “wow she practically sang that song to you” when Emily came over where we were to sing parts of Breathing Underwater (or was it Risk?) so that definitely made my day. Glad I chose to wear the Metric tour shirt! 🤧
Also Gwen Stefani was THE SHIT. I went in being like “well this should be alright” but NO, she gave such an incredible performance and the crowd was so into her! And I surprisingly knew a lot of her songs! Except like three. “Don’t Speak” was sooooo goooood!!!! I was like wow I should be recording some of this, this is amazing, but I was too mesmerized by her performance that I just couldn’t move and just had to enjoy the moment.
Anyway I love music. Life is good sometimes!!
