Saoirse
Loretta’s firearm, finished just prior to her passing through the Arc of the Worthy to journey the outside world, is a combination of Skysteel Manufactory ingenuity, and salvaged Garlean magitek. What Loretta couldn’t make herself using the machines available she tore from the remains of ‘liberated’ Garlean gunblades and sidearms.
Unlike most double-barreled firearms in Eorzea, Saoirse (Pronounced Seer-sha, meaning ‘Freedom’ in an old hyuran dialect) uses a four-round cylinder attached to each barrel. An advanced trigger system salvaged from a Garlean shotgun prevents both barrels from firing at once, as the .30 calibre rounds would produce too much recoil for the midlander if fired in that manner. Instead, it fires in a semi-automatic fashion, cycling between right and left barrels, before switching to the right again.
The double-barrel design, as well as the shorter length of the weapon prevent it from being accurate beyond twenty-five yalms, but any target within that range can expect precise rounds of decent stopping power. With each cylinder holding 4 rounds, and the special trigger system, a total of 8 .30 calibre rounds can be rapidly fired in a pinch, or carefully placed if Loretta were able to focus.
The drawbacks of such a weapon, aside from the lack of long-range sniping, also include the possibility of the user panicking and firing all 8 shots inaccurately. It takes noticeably longer to reload both cylinders than it is to fire said rounds...
