poor reese having to put up with marc's whole "i must always sacrifice myself for the greater good in the most ill-planned and frustrating way possible" thing AGAIN, but also
POOR FUCKING 8-BALL 😭 MY BELOVED DISPOSABLE FAILGIRL
oh g-d this is the funniest shit in the world to me for no good reason
"erm, you may be wondering how i ended up in this situation!"
(also the fucking. moon spraypainted over with an x. is killing me)
reading moon knight in print (#westayflexing (silly)) so i’m not gonna have panels attatched like my usual liveblogs but
opening on zodiac telling fairchild “fuck your money i want to kiss moon knight on the mouth (evil style), you turned me down and now you’re fucked” is so fucking strong
jed mackay’s respect for the people who wrote moon knight before him is genuinely one of my favorite things about his work. he not only doesn’t do pointless retcons or completely remake the character to suit what he wants, but he also does callbacks and expands on the characters and includes subtle references, it’s amazing.
i came to superhero comics from graphic novels—i was a graphic novelist before—which meant reading a lot of things written by the same author and done by the same artist for years, often focusing far more on character growth and plot and relationships than on action or events. superhero comics are great, but often not even remotely focused on artistry (in writing or illustration).
one of the coolest things about industry comics that they have over many graphic novels and indie comics is the spirit of long term collaboration among many authors and changes of hands, working with what you have and improving on it without treating what came before as inferior or irrelevent—even when it sometimes objectively kind of is. but that doesn’t always happen. actually, it seems kind of rare.
a writer who understands that is such an incredible thing, especially when it’s a writer as talented and invested as mackay. the spirit of respect really shines in his work, and i think it’s beautiful and his writing is better for it.
WE ARE SO BACK
honestly i think my favorite issue of mackay’s mk might be “journey to the center of the mind” (vol 9 27)—i 100% forgot that it existed for months but like. in terms of plural representation on every level. i fucking love it actually. probably gonna break down the issue when i finish the thing i was already doing lmao
