So I saw this post (especially that unfair reblog by @rangerthursday11) and had to add my own spin on it. Imagine if we had an RA TV show that gave us little gapfiller scenes now and then that weren’t included in the books... Somewhere between Halt’s Peril and Nihon-Ja you have a scene at the end of an episode, or the middle of a montage. There’s no dialogue. First we see Gilan requesting leave, then a shot of Horace doing the same. Then in a side-by-side shot we see them both riding towards a northern fief. We see them finally meet up and hug as music starts to filter in. Gilan's wearing his formal Ranger uniform, Horace is wearing formal wear as well. We get the sense that this is a solemn occasion. Gilan puts his arm around Horace and they walk up a hill to an open-air little gathering in front of a humble little cottage. Horace gives Gilan an encouraging pat on the back as Gilan goes up to the rough little podium at the front of the little group. Just in front of the podium, we see both Pict and Araluen flags covering a casket. 

And realize

that everyone here is wearing a sword
