El 16 de octubre de 1994 se emite en Japón el primer episodio de MACROSS 7 (Macross Seven), tras 11 años de la emisión del último episodio de MACROSS (1982).
Macross 7 es una serie original de anime transmitida en Japón desde el 16 de octubre de 1994 hasta el 24 de septiembre de 1995, producida por MBS (Mainichi Broadcast System) con BIG WEST y transmitida por MBS y TBS con un total de 49 episodios.
La trama de Macross 7 se sitúa 35 años después de los acontecimientos vistos en Macross (1982) y, por tanto, cuenta con una serie de nuevos personajes, mechas, lugares y conceptos.
