lol i keep seeing 7 year old comments and stuff as i look up old soundtracks... like macross frontier, with the ol’ ranka vs sheryl argument. and i know a lot of people will be like ‘OH pitting them against each other is so sexist!’ but y’know... they’re both in a love triangle, they both have exclusive op and endings, songs, we’re supposed to compare...
and years later, ranka still sucks. she’s a nice girl, she has a sweet voice. but she’s like a child in many ways, she’s immature, and her relationship with alto was never ever... romantic feeling? no tension, nothing. he treated her like a kid sister. i guess all love triangles would be better if a ‘winner’ or canon person was always obvious, but boi oh boi was sheryl obvious. she was far more polished, all of her interactions and screen time with alto was romantic, humorous and uh [sexual]. alto responded to her like an interested individual, he was curious about her, and he cared for her much more than ranka. sure he saved ranka, but he saved sheryl in a much deeper sense. he saved her soul. [also alto and sheryl have sex] and in the final episode, after they ya know, share an earring as a keepsake, he tries to tell her how he feels but she stops him so that he’ll have something to tell her when he returns. sure there’s that lil line in the end of the series as alto says that BOTH ranka and sheryl are his ‘wings’ or whatever. but he’s obviously IN love, romantic, sexual love, with sheryl. hehhh and then the movies came out and ranka was just totally ignored. man. i feel kinda bad for the ranka fans, but then again, you can be a fan of her and not want her to be with alto. it’s like minmay, only ranka is far less evil.
